And it ain't Bubby.
I removed the name from the hood and helmet because I figured someone would cheat and read it. Hint: Only time this gentleman ever drove this car.

Here's the photo as the car actually looked. I had him sign a print of the shot and he told me that was the only time he had ever driven the car. Not too bad a pilot, huh.

Here's an interesting story about that car and Ronnie. For years everyone thought it was Bubby in the "Gas Chem" car on that first cover of Open Wheel Magazine. Rumor has it that it was not Bubby. It was indeed a shot of Shuman in his first and only run in the yellow #2.

I am in possession of the Open Wheel "Gas Chem" issue and the cover shot is of Bubby Jones in the Gas Chem #66. I believe that the pic was taken at Speedway 117 in Chula Vista.

I don't know who the crew chief was, but I damn well should know. These guys needed a lot more attention paid to them. Still do.
Come on all you Ascot sprint buffs.

Could be. I don't have a clue. Kevin must know because he brought it up.
Names of crew chiefs aren't easy to find. Seems like they are never listed in programs. Odd, considering how critical they are to sprint car racing. This looks like a job for Super Lance.
Meanwhile, here's a tougher "who be dat driver?"one for all you know-it-alls. Of course identity has been cleverly removed from the car through the magic of Photoshop. Crew Chief?

That is Bruce Douglass driving Kierce Kierce's back up car back in September if i recall correctly. Looks like Bruce at least; black helmet, red suit.
If it is Bruce, he is really his own crew chief

You are correct sir! I too have that issue and as soon as I can get Mike Arthur to autograph the thing it will be matted, framed, and on the wall. Just inside, on the contents page, is one of my all time favorite photos which is of Chuck Gurney passing someone on the outside at Duquoin and flipping them off with his left hand outside the cage. Classic!

Are you able to scan and post that Gurney photo? I'd like to set it as my desktop background.

You're way too sharp for me.
Nice of Kevin to furnish that car, huh? I heard Bruce had offers from others for a car to drive in the feature. Racers are good people.
