I posted this over on the other forum too.
Please tell me how the crew chief of the year award went to D.J. Lindsey, when you have someone like Ricky Warner who as a crew chief was responsible for 19 wins over the year with Joey Saldana and Donny Schatz and over 70 top 10 finishes and the two drivers he crewed for finished 1st and second in points, Saldana had the point lead until a week before warner was let go by Kasey Khane Racing and he never regained it after Ricky left.
Ricky was crew chief for Schatz when he won 5 out of 6 of every big race the WoO have.
Schatz had 19 wins, 53 top fives and 71 top 10's on the other hand Myers had 5 wins 34 top 5's and 49 top 10"s and finished 5th in the points. so tell me how does D.J Lindsey win the crew chief of the year award. Please tell me that politics aren't involved in the choice of crew chief of the year.
Let me close with this. "Ricky Warner you're my pick hands down, and I never did like politics."
Don't get me wrong D.J. is a nice guy but he was not crew chief of the year in my opinion.

Basically, it's saying that the people picking aren't taking account of wins, top 5's, and top 10's, just basically sucking some D. I hate politics with BS like this. . . .
Ricky Warner. . . . . I don't even need to say it. . . .

The World of Outlaws Crew Chief of the Year Award was determined by the crew chiefs of the 21 teams that raced full time with the series in 2007. Ballots were issued to all teams, with instructions that the crew chiefs cast their vote, while NOT voting for themselves. DJ Lindsey was selected as crew chief of the year by his peers.

I'm sure . . .there's no way that his peers thought he was the best. No matter what it is, if voting occurs, who counts it? It's skewed by the tally. Who would vote for him? There are no results to back it up, and basically its just giving it away. . . .BS as I called before. . . .

What is the real beef that you ingrates have with DJ?
The guy was voted by "HIS PEERS" as crew chief of the year!!!! Did you ever stop to think for even a second that perhaps there are more things that go on in the pits than what meets the eye? What if this crew chief never had a motor blow up? Or what if they were always helping OTHER TEAMS out and the other crew chiefs appreciated it? What if they had made MONUMENTAL strides in consistancy? What if he overcame huge disparities in funding? Did you ever even think about that before slamming his award????
No, you jackasses with a keyboard KNOW MORE THAN THE 21 fulltime crew chiefs of the World of Outlaws.....HA! Get real....
Congrats to DJ on a fine award from your PEERS!

If it was called "Best Set-Up Guy Award" then maybe you could give it to Ricky Warner. But the award is "Crew Chief of the Year". This means you have to have been a Chief of a Crew. Ricky was with three different crews over the year. Thus I wouldn't say he was the CHIEF of any crew, making him ineligible in my opinion.

I don't have any problem with D.J. getting voted by his peers but really it should be called a popularity contest instead of crew chief of the year award because it clearly wasn't based on accomplishments.
Clearly it should be renamed "Popularity Contest". Anybody can see through the smoke and mirrors here. Johnny Gibson you can do better than that

Johhny you were so quick to reply, thanks. Would you give us the names of the crew chiefs who were voted on, I understand there were some names missing. Could you clear that up for us? Thanks
Not everyone knows how the crew chiefs names are given to be voted on could you explain who gives the names to be voted on since the crew chiefs don't give there own names.

Johnny you are giving us the impression and saying "The World of Outlaws Crew Chief of the Year Award was determined by the crew chiefs of the 21 teams" so far so good, but what you didn't tell us was the list of names the crew chiefs voted on, that's what we want to know, not who voted. There's a BIG difference between the two! Boy you're tricky I had to read your reply a couple of times to figure out what you didn't want us to know, which is (the list of names the crew chiefs voted on.)
I never did like having the wool pulled over my eyes.

Congratulations DJ Lindsay on a well deserved crew chief of the year award. Having HAD the opportunity to work for DJ on a couple of seperate occasions, I can tell you he spent more time than anyone trying to teach me the inner workings of a sprint car. Not just how to adjust or install something, but WHY to make the adjustment. Takes alot of nerve for a couple of you to get on here and belittle the award and its winner when you dont have the first clue what a WoO crew chief goes thru in a season. Way to go DJ! You earned it.

well if he's your buddy of course you would say that. no offense but thats a lil biased. I don't think any one else on here knows any of the crew chiefs personally.......I think what many are stating is simply the obvious. Warner does have a lot of success wherever he is.
It doesn't matter to me either way. But I would think that it would go to the best - which is Warner....but someone above had a great point - he was with 3 different teams throughout the year. Nevertheless - Not every time with the crew chiefs will they collectively vote for the best among them - because the best chief could be a prick and they all not like him. Maybe WoO should find a better and more efficient way of determining the award. One could only imagine the grudges from a year on the WoO trail. If you had 20 teams it could the chief of the one in last place that pissed the fewest off - and he could win it - that may not be very likely - but you get the point. They let internal politics determine the award. I don't think thats the best way at all.

"You don't have the first clue what a WoO crew chief goes thru in a season." Now that is jumping to a conclusion not based on reality or evidence seeing you don't know me.

I agreed with most of what you said. I'm not sure who posted Ricky Warner was with 3 teams, that is not accurate he was with 2 teams.
I liked your thoughts on the whole issue though, some good reasoning and just plain old common sense.
I bet we'd all be surprised to know how many family and personal friends of crew chiefs visit and read these posts. They more than anyone know the long grueling hours of hard and exhausting work that goes into to being a great crew chief. It's both physically and mentally demanding sometimes to the point of exhaustion.
Where would the drivers be without a great crew chief and where would the crew chief's be without a great driver? It takes both to win a championship. Schatz and Warner have that combination right now in my opinion.
It's obvious you really know the inner workings and what goes on behind the scenes with the crew chiefs. You either are one or know one personally.

When Ricky left Saldana he went to work with Paul McMahon for a short time before returning to work with Donny Schatz. This is what led to the beginning of speculation that Schatz was going to be with TSR next year, because McMahon and Schatz were seen parking next to each other, with Ricky working with both drivers. But before officially returning to Schatz's team he was with McMahon. That is three teams.

Just curious - why does all of this stir up so many emotions and bad feelings? And why is John Gibson being bashed here? All he did was explain the selection process - I saw no attempt to deceive anyone.
No one asked for a list of eligible names until after Johnny posted his response to the original message. Bashing a guy in hindsight - how tacky is that?
While John doesn't need my defense here, I feel that some of you guys are just looking for reasons to slam WRG/DIRT and its employees.....21 traveling teams - seems like that is a pretty good circuit, to me. And while a few teams will go away in 2008, I'm fairly sure that others will step up to fill their spots on the road.
And how bad can that be???
Chuck.....

you're right. I'm having trouble keeping everything straight. You were able to jar my memory with all the speculation when the change came with Ricky Warner going to TSR but over time it was clear to see Ricky Warner was still setting up Schatz's car. I don't know if anyone really knows besides Ricky Warner if that was the plan all along. Either way I count the wins the other teams had after Warner left the other teams. So with the wins Schatz has and the wins Joey got along with McMahon Warner had a great year!

I remember when they used to do that in the high school year books. Do they still that anymore? I think "Most Popular Crew Chief Of 2007 As Voted On By Peers" is more appropriate this year. There's not a nicer person than D.J. I agree.
