True. But I only knew the sentiment after armyduke answered my original question. Few are gonna burn up their hall pass for average purses.

Few burn up their hall passes anyways because the racing season is expensive enough with what's on their schedule. They must have had extra money in the budget to run the extra race, and felt this gave them the best chance to cash in. Also, at the majority of tracks, Cole has to figure he's finishing 10th-20th anyways, so running a $50,000 to win show, and finishing 10th-20th is not going to pay as well as a track they think they can win that pays $12,000. That said, the purse/payout money has little to do with this decision. Most of these lower-budget platinum teams are treating these hall passes as an additional expense, not a potential profit. Truth. They almost "made money" if not for the mishap just past the checkers.
