This is my first post here and I'll be attending my first Chili Bowl. Are there any guidelines for seat cushions? I haven't waded through the CB site to try to look for them yet. 18" wide maybe? Are seats with backs allowed?
|
We take some extra peices of memory foam and strap them down and leave them the whole week. Or a pillow or a flat cushion you can buy. I know we had people sit by us one year with seats with backs on them and it makes for a uncomfortable time because the seats are so close together. Even without the seat backs our knees are up against the persons back in front of us.

Seats with backs should be outlawed at every track. They are so annoying for us big and tall guys. If you people that use them need support, get there early enough for top row. If not, leave the seatbacks at home.

Thanks Cheroger. What a shame. I miss those great Indian Tacos. I guess I'll have to settle for the Coney Islanders.
Hope to see you again this year.

There should be NO seatbacks at the Chili Bowl. Seating is already too tight. I hope they enforce it this year.

This brings up another question. Just how tight is the seating? Im a pretty big guy...I assume legroom is at a minimum but are the seats incredibly narrow too?

Whats the temperature like inside? T-shirt ?, sweatshirt ?
"stroll thru the pits"....can you do that without a pit pass at certain times? Passes seem pretty expensive
Symptoms of "Chil Bowl flu"???

For me I still bring a sweatshirt. Depending on where you sit it can have some drafts and they don't keep it overly warm. I see plenty in just t shirts but at least bring the sweatshirt and sit on it if your hot. You will need a pit pass to stroll through the pits along with your normal ticket. Worth the money. Or you could just do the pit pass and sit in the pit stands but I believe you already have a ticket which will be nice to not have to fight for room.

Thanks... I'll probably have to spring for a pit pass at least one day
What about dreaded "Chili Bowl Flu"?

You can walk the pits for free on Tues, Wed, Thur until about 3pm. I usually wander over around noon, you will be surprised who you might see.

Chili Bowl Flu won't hit you until you get home. The cooler air during the week, the dust and the exhaust. That is the combo that gives the "Chili Bowl Flu".
Personally I think it is my body telling me it wanted more racing action and not to have to go back to work.

all of the above plus the fact that you are packed indoors for 5 days with 10,000 people from all over the country during the height of flu season. It usually does not hit me until Monday, which usually follows a very long day at the track on Saturday followed by very little sleep and a long drive on Sunday. This year I am taking the precautions of a flu shot (never have had one before), sleeping in on Sunday and flying home.

I have developed a short list of go to food joints too.
Nelson's Buffeteria for just good old fashioned home cooking at least once
Timmy's Diner on the east side has some of the best biscuits and gravy I have every had (can't find even a decent one in Denver)
Ike's Chili, Chili for the Chili Bowl, the place has been around since 190? and at one point sponsored a push truck. Good red chili too.
Elephant Run bar at least once
Whattaburger because they aren't in Denver
There is a mexican food truck next to the Wyndom hotel on 41st that is good and open until 2 or 3 am on Fri/Sat

"flying home"..... I wish!
You were right about plane fares, dirt cheap to OKC, but rental cars are really expensive there. Made reservation for rental car in Denver (half of OKC price!) before I bought another used car, haven't driven it enough to have 100% confidence, presently debating whether to use rental or take a chance on my new ride...
Either way its a long drive, leaving tomorrow
See ya there, God willin' & the creek don't rise....

The drive isn't too bad if weather isn't a factor, 10 hours if I remember right. One thing about flying is that I won't get to stop at Casey's for breakfast pizza.

Yea, I drive across Kansas & back every summer to to spend time with Mom on the East Coast, Easy, but long & boring. After Kansas, things seem to pick up.... smaller states. more scenery
Haven't been to Oklahoma in years....

In the past, they've had an auction of racing items for charity at the Expo. I would assume they are having it again this year, but I haven't heard anything about it.

Sorry, I see they clear the pits and stands at 1pm.
So if you want to walk the pits for free, late morning is better.
