Steve Overton #75
With the wings I assume this photo is from the 80's with a touch of the 70's with Steve and the #75.
Contributed to RFTP by Randy Pierce via Steve Overton's collections.

Is this the old Suchy car that Leep drove?
7-18-07- This car was a Jelly Wilhelm chassis. As #13 with Benny Taylor, It won the '74 championship. It also closed the deal for Holman in '75 after a falling out between Holman and his earlier car owner.

Sure has that look, even has the little wing (deflector) and the tail looks to be one like the Suchy #76

This version was 1977. It was later a gray or silver instead of white. 1974 was the 1st year with Benny Taylor at the wheel with the number 13.

This car was a true hybrid, originally built by Darrell Cleveland and then rebuilt with several modifications by Dale Parson. The body was even a hybrid, it was a Broken Arrow Fiberglass 30 Ford duck tail with a Parson top. This car was always fast and many races and championships were won by Harold Leep and Benny Taylor in the cockpit.

How bout the 59 John Werthen G Mac Janitorial Supply Car, good steady shoe out of Tulsa in the 80's and early 90's . I got some close up pics of the 76 car at Amarillo when it was red and silver and with the gold 76 numbers.

Not sure if anyone remembers Gary Sooter from Amarillo, TX.
He started our in the Supermodifieds in 1979 and began traveling
with NCRA on a regular basis in 1981. Thought I would post a few photos
for you guys to look at. He was a great competitor and meticulous at every detail

Gary retired from racing after the 1988 season.
He still lives and works in Amarillo and spends his time
with his son Aric who enjoys racing motocross. I keep asking,
but not sure if we'll ever see him in a dirt car.

Page 179, Bob Mays High Plains Thunder shows Harold in a Suchy car with this body. Springer front, matching the car at the top. Perhaps this was a different frame from the 76 car. Car is numbered 24.
Seeing as how there are few pictures of this car, it is my guess that Suchy didn't keep this car for long. There have been several stories as to who has the 76 car. I think it is one of the cars that needs to be restored but it would be good to find the right one. In 1987 a driver showed up at Ada to a Super mod race and he had a 4-bar car with the same body as these two. He claimed his was the 76 car and the last I knew he still had it. This car ran with a sprint tail at Lawton on occassion well into the '90s with little success but was a lot of fun. Harold Leep Jr. says he believes the 76 car is in OkC at the hands of another owner. Does anybody know and have proof? Are there any characteristics that are on the frame that could ID the car?

I wonder what the story was with the #24 in 1977. 1977 was not a good year for the Suchy-Leep team. They had several blown engines and missed several Mains.

It became an obsession of mine to sort this out a little. Overtons car [top of this page] is Benny Taylors Suchy's no. 13. The '76 car WAS a different car. Benny crashed the 13[in '74] at Tulsa yet it was put back in at some point[no. 24- Leep '77?]. The 76 car was also a no. 13 for a time. Walker reworked the springer car for the '74 season and Parsons did the bodywork. Parsons probably did the bodywork on the '76 car as well. The photos and memories I have are of a mono-rail frame converted to a four bar on the 76. NOW THEN, in 1976 when Leep came out of retirement he made a deal with Cates and Suchy to have both cars[2 and 76]. Cates at Tulsa, Suchy at OkC. Suchy's 76 would be primary for NCRA and Cates 2 for a backup. The old 13[springer front] car would have made three but it wasn't needed. They were taking on Hahn, and Crawford who had plenty of resources. I find no evidence of the springer Suchy car numbered 76.
Ps- In all the pictures I've seen, only Suchy had a body style like this on his cars. Ducktail, Parsons top.
