Having never been in the position to deliver news like this here please give me just a moment to put my rookie flags on. A member of the racing community, crew chief on the Mike Benson racing #77, maker of great wine, man with a huge heart, and friend to many Mark Porter lost his only son Aaron in a car accident on Silverado Trail at 9:00 last night. Aaron was 21 years old and affectionately known as "Kid" to those older but close to him. Apparently the truck Aaron and his soon to be 18 year old ex-girlfriend Alex were traveling in made contact with another vehicle before hitting a telephone pole where Bale Lane dumps into Silverado Trail killing them both.

I have no idea how many people know Mark Porter but those who do know just how big a heart the guy has. Knowing that for every 1 person that posts on here there are probably 10 who lurk I will keep everyone posted on the details as things develop this week. The hope is that a memorial service will be held this weekend in Calistoga and the confidence is high that that will be accomplished. If you are of the religious persuasion your prayers will be appreciated and any thoughts offered here will be passed on to Mark.

May your young soul rest in peace "Kid". We had some good times Aaron. Your dad loved you so much. You will be missed more than you would have ever understood.

condolances to the porter family and Benson Racing. Sad is an understatement when you lose a kid.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool,
but then I'm not 16 so therefore my opinion is of no
consequence...

Studeedoo never spoke truer words.

RIP Aaron & Alex.

My condolences Mark. Having also somewhat recently lost a child, I grieve with you. The racing community will be there for you, I know from experience. Allow them to be there... it does help.
