I am sorry to report, there will be no camping this weekend at the fairgrounds. The firefighters and crews are still there and looks like maybe another week, before they depart. We are really sorry but this is beyond our control. Let's just try to make the best of it and have a great weekend,,,,,,

Now I was told that people were camping along the pit road outside the fairgrounds last weekend? Is this aloud? If not can we stay out in the parking lot? 2nd choice any rooms available near by? Thanks for the help in advanced.

The main thing most are wondering is about the pit situation? Is it going to be like the last couple weeks where we have to be out of the pits in 30 mins? I assume it is, but just wondering.

There were no camping along pit road. The fire crews are there. The parking lots are taken up with equipment and only the east end of the parking lot (across from pit road) is available for spectators to park. And you STILL have to go into the Costco gates.. If things change before I leave tomorrow I will post the new info otherwise it remains the same... As for rooms you will have to call around as I am not sure what is available. You might start with Oxford Suites , Holiday Inn., Marriott's..

Thanks appreciate it! Just think it would be nice if people can go in the pits and be able to congratulate the King of California.

I'll make the same offer I have made in the past: We are just seven miles southwest of the track. We have room for two trailers / motorhomes with the ablity for both to connect to power and water. Anyone wanting to tent camp we have a large shaded grassy area and I'll even make it a point to turn off the sprinklers :-). I offer this FREE of charge. We'd love to host a race team and / or some fans - maybe barbecue and have a few beers. e-mail me cwlovett@netcom.com if this fits into your GSC finale weekend plans.

I was wondering about the pits situation also... Are the fans going to be able to go in to the pits after the races?? I understand they want the people and rigs out of the pits within 30 mins after the checkered..

I don't think there is a lack of appreciation or understanding of how lucky we are and you don't have to live here in order to recognize that. How many promoters do you think would have even TRIED to work with the situation and move forward with the races as scheduled? Only the best would have and I believe that JPM will be up for promoter of the year just due to this effort alone. Once the fire fighters are done doing their good work the smoke will clear, everything will return to normal, and we can all go back to enjoying the fairgrounds as we have for many years.

Being the big believer in MURPHY’S LAW that I am, I have to say this, "I sure hope they are done and gone by GOLD CUP". Don’t get me wrong, I’m not badmouthing the fire fighters, I just hope they have the fires out and are gone by Gold Cup.

This story was in today`s Chico Enterprise Record.
Complex fires containment date revised
CHICO — Officials with Cal Fire-Butte County moved back the estimated containment date for the Butte Lightning Complex fires to Monday, July 27.
As late as yesterday, officials were still hoping for full containment today. They said flames burning in steep terrain at the northern edge of the Camp Fire, west of Pulga, have proved tough to extinguish.
Officials said a large contingent of firefighters — currently estimated at 1,657 — will remain on the Butte County fires until they are fully contained.
