I realized that it hasn't been put on here yet and just wanted to send condolences to the family of Walt Branco who passed away over the weekend. Walt was the owner of the 6x car that Randy Hannagan and Chuck Gurney Jr. have driven in recent years.
Some of the cars had "In Memory of Walt Branco" stickers on their cars Saturday in Antioch which was pretty cool.

Branco is correct. Walt was a great man who loved racing. Over time he slowly built his car to be one of the best 360's on the west coast. His teaming with Brian Sperry proved to be a winning combo, with Gurney Jr. sweeping Silver Cup in 2007 & Hannagan winning the final leg of last years Trophy Cup. His car always being a threat to win, its last race was a 4th at this years silver cup with Hannagan. The last race Walt attended he helped Sperry guide Shane Golobic to his first Golden State win.

My condolences to the family. He will surely be missed in the racing community.
I have been asked if I had any photos of Walt from the last few years. If anyone else has any they would like to share please let me know via email at info@johnsracingphotos.com so I can put you in touch with the person putting together the photos for the family.

Thanks Steve for posting this about Walt Branco. It has been a tough couple of weeks helping his family out with all of this. I have spent a lot of time with Walt and his family recently. Racing was a big part of his life. He enjoyed hanging out at the track and talking to everyone. He gave guys like Gurney Jr., Hannigan, Doug Brewer, Joe (121) and myself what ever we needed to go racing. He had a big heart for this sport that we all love and was a great friend to work with. He will be greatly missed.
God speed Walt
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 11:00am at the Lima Family Memorial Chapel, 710 Willow St., San Jose, CA 95125.

Walt was a racer! But he was also a BIG fan of the sport too!I will never forget Walt heading to the pit stands to watch the heat races while his car was still at the trailer getting ready for a later heat. He loved to watch his car go around the track along with all the competition his car was competing against!
Myself teaming up with Walt and Brian Sperry turning the wrenches was a dream come true. You could not ask for a better car owner and crew chief!
The 2007 Silver Cup is something that I will never forget. Its not to often that you can put a weekend together like that!!! Thanks Walt!!
YOU will be riding with me at ORP this Thursday in the Midget! God Speed D-Walt!!
Chuck Gurney Jr.
