It is with regret that I inform the fans that driver Johnny Rodriguez will withdraw his name from competing this weekend at the Checker Auto Part / Budweiser Western World Championships at Manzanita Speedway due to an injury. Rodriguez, who drive's the Mark Priestley owned #7, was involved in a violent wreck that took him out of the lead during the B main event Saturday night at the Oval Nationals in Perris. Since the wreck, Rodriguez has been dealing with vision problems and signs of a serious concussion. He had a CT scan on Monday afternoon and is still awaiting detailed results. He is optimistic about finishing the year at the Kindoll Classic on Nov 18 in Priestley's car.

Rodriguez was leading the B main event with three laps to go when on a single file restart Danny Sheridan, in the Pace Electronics #18, slid him on the bottom trying to take the lead. Contact followed and Rodriguez flipped violently into the wall and catch fence in turn two. Sheridan went on to win the race while Rodriguez was left with a destroyed race car and injuries that will sideline him for an undisclosed amount of time. This race was transferring the top 12 cars to the 40-lap main event.

Too bad for Johnny. Got to meet and talk with him this summer at the Midget Nationals. Head injuries are nothing to rush...

Nice politically correct way of bashing another driver too (note the last 2 sentences). I guess this board is getting "nicer".

Get well soon, Johnny!!! Best of luck when you do return.

It sure is!

Very diplomatic,

Daffynition of that is telling someone to go to Hell in such a manner that they look forward to the trip

Watch the video clip of the wreck on racewayvideo.com and you will clearly see that when Johnny "drove" over the right rear of Sheridan, Sheridan was in the lead. I know facts are hard to take sometimes but they are worth mentioning. I like Johnny but to slam Sheridan for what could have been prevented by Johnny is odd. I always thought the driver who was leading was the leader...maybe I have had it wrong all along.
