Martinez, Solwold and Carpenter Victorious

Alger, WA- Barry Martinez beat the weather and a stout field of 410 Sprint Cars at Skagit Speedway on round two of the Foothills Toyota Tundra Racing Series. With imminent weather, Martinez beat pole sitter Nick Engberg into turn one and withstood some stout challenges from Travis Rutz and Jason Solwold in heavy lap traffic to win his first main event of 2008. Martinez weaved his way through half the field of cars by the time Cameron Smith brought out the evening ending yellow on lap 13. Officials determined the track unsafe to race on at that point and called an end to the night's races. Rutz was fast time. Heat race wins went to Aaron Fell, Steve Kilcup and Seth Bergman.
Jason Solwold won his first main event of 2008 in the Budweiser 360 division. Solwold ran down Huson in lapped traffic, waiting for his opportunity. He found it on lap 20 when Huson came upon Alan Munn and chose to try and pass him low. Solwold took his mount to the high side and hooked it up beautifully entering turn three, then powered around Huson who had to check up to get underneath Munn. Brian Kirkpatrick was quick time. Solwold, Brock Lemley and Munn won the heats.
Kelsey Carpenter was a repeat winner in the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints. Carpenter was scheduled to start inside row two on the main, but the initial start saw a wicked accident occur involving pole sitter Kelleigh Johnson and Glen Reinstra that ended up with Johnson on his top. Carpenter took the gift that was given to him and didn't frown upon it, using his newly found pole position and leading all 20 laps for his second win in a row. Devin Madonia finished second. Madonia and Carpenter were the heat race winners.
The Wilson Auto Brokers Outlaw Hornet feature was cancelled due to weather. Heats were won by Ben Gunderson and Tyler Ketchum. Skagit Speedway officials will decide during the week how and when to make up the missed Outlaw Hornet main.
