34 Raceway

West Burlington, IA

IRA

35 cars

Daryn Pittman (15th car out to time) broke the 17 year old track record set by Doug Wolfgang on the 3/8 mile banked oval at 12.461 seconds. Lucas Wolfe (9th car out) was second quick, followed by Danny Lasoski (29th), Terry McCarl (8th), Sam Hafertepe Jr. (3rd), Chad Hillier (24th), Kaley Gharst (30th), Josh Schneiderman (13th), Billy Balog (23rd) and Mike Reinke (14th). Scott Boles spun into the infield and hit the tow truck hard. He was uninjured, but done for the night. Scott Biertzer had motor problems and got one slow lap in.

Heat one (started): 1. Pittman 21 (6) 2. Mike Moore 69 (1) 3. Scott Neitzel 2w (2) 4. John Haeni 21J (3) / 5. Balog 17B (4) 6. Nick Eastin 22x (8) 7. Billy Hafemann 2B (7) 8. Cainen Reimann 00 (9) 9. Hafertepe Jr. 15H (5)

Moore took the early lead from the pole in the 10 lapper. Pittman and Neitzel put on a nice battle for the runner-up spot. Pittman ducked under Moore in the final corner for the lead in an exciting heat. Hafertepe Jr. suffered electrical problems and exited before a lap could be completed.

Heat two (started): 1. Skip Jackson 2 (2) 2. Bobby Mincer 15 (1) 3. Wolfe 5w (6) 4. Reinke 02 (4) / 5. Billy Alley 22 (7) 6. Andy Hunt 9A (8) 7. Lynton Jeffrey 12 (3) 8. Hillier 5c (5) 9. Scott Biertzer 4B (9)

Jackson led flag to flag, but the race was plagued by a lap 8 red. Jeffrey was running fifth when Hillier hit the high side of turn three to try to pass him. The two made contact, with Hillier destroying his mount, and Jeffrey suffering heavy damage as they both got upside down. Both were unhurt, but done for the night. Reinke held off Alley the final two laps for the final transfer. Biertzer exited on lap two.

Heat three (started): 1. Gharst 7K (5) 2. Dave Uttech 68 (4) 3. Lasoski 5 (6) 4. Ryan Irwin 49 (2) / 5. Matt Rogerson 29 (7) 6. Bill Wirth 53w (1) 7. Bob Weuve 19 (3) 8. Russel Borland 23 (8) DNS – Scott Boles 4BX

After Weuve was moved back a row for jumping the initial start, Gharst worked his way around Wirth to lead lap one. He pulled away from the field the rest of the way. D. Uttech and Irwin battled much of the way for second, before Lasoski slipped between them at the finish.

Heat four (started): 1. McCarl 24 (6) 2. Ricky Logan 10 (4) 3. Kim Mock 1m (1) 4. Steve Meyer 85m (2) / 5. Scott Uttech 3K (3) 6. Schneiderman 49s (5) 7. Ryan Jamison 51J (7) 8. Jordan Goldesberry 65 (8)

Mock shot out to an early lead. Meanwhile, McCarl was working his way up through the pack sliding by Logan. On lap seven, he shot around Mock on the high side for the lead. Logan also got by Mock on the last lap. Goldesberry, making his first career start, spun early and retired before the finish.

B main (started): 1. Hafertepe Jr. (1) 2. Balog (2) 3. S. Uttech (5) 4. Rogerson (9) 5. Alley (8) 6. Schneiderman (3) / 7. Eastin (11) 8. Wirth (6) 9. Hafemann (7) 10. Jamison (10) 11. Weuve (4) 12. Hunt (12) 13. Reimann (15) 14. Borland (13) 15. Biertzer (14) DNS – Goldesberry, Hillier, Jeffrey, Boles

Hafertepe Jr. dominated the 15 lapper despite a couple of cautions. Biertzer hit the wall and stopped on lap seven, while Rienan?? Stopped bringing out the other. Rogerson used his experience at 34 and the low side to move up five spots into a transfer.

A main (started) (unofficial): 1. Pittman (8) 2. Lasoski (6) 3. McCarl (5) 4. Hafertepe Jr. (11) 5. Wolfe (7) 6. Logan (1) 7. Balog (13) 8. Reinke (3) 9. Jackson (9) 10. Neitzel (15) 11. Meyer (17) 12. Haeni (10) 13. S. Uttech (14) 14. Mock (20) 15. Irwin (16) 16. Schneiderman (12) 17. D. Uttech (2) 18. Moore (18) 19. Gharst (4) 20. Alley (21) 21. Rogerson (22) 22. Mincer (19)

D. Uttech shot out to a straightaway lead early over Logan in the 30 lapper. After smacking the fronstretch wall on lap four, his lead disappeared and Logan took command on lap five. Hafertepe Jr. surged to second past D. Uttech from row six, but gave way to Lasoski a few laps later. Lasoski continued his pursuit of Logan and took the point from him on lap 12 as five cars vied for first and second (Logan, Lasoski, Hafertepe Jr., Pittman, McCarl). Lasoski had built a nice advantage by lap 18, when Gharst hit an infield tire and exited while running eighth. Lasoski led Pittman, Hafertepe Jr., Logan and McCarl back to green flag racing. Pittman stayed on the leader's nerf bar and made his winning pass on lap 22. He worked through traffic masterfully, but four laps later, Irwin spun bringing the final slowdown. Pittman led Lasoski, McCarl, Hafertepe Jr. and Wolfe back to green flag racing. The lead five stayed the same, as Pittman completed his clean sweep of the night, and shared hard-charger honors with Hafertepe Jr.

Great racin, nice facility! Anyone within a 2 hr. radius that missed this race tonight should really reconsider their racing loyalty. Do NOT miss the WoO show July 30!

Didn't want to go there, but you insist.

Top 6 in TT's were WoO regulars. out of those 6, one wrecked in the heat, the other 5 were top 5 of the feature. When you have 18 out of 24 cars at a WoO feature that are on their game, it makes for a lot of single file racing. Put 6 of those guys with 16 underfunded/inexperienced racers, invert them a little bit, and you'll get some passing/good racing. I paid $25 for a pit pass, and saw a good (no rain) sprint car show. In my book, that's priceless. Shows like these when you don't know who will show up, are those you don't want to miss!

i wonder what general admission was. well around here every year it's getting to be worse as far as who WON'T show up. i paid $22 for general admission last weak at Charter for 14 midgets and a "B-Main" type IRA show.

damn, if I went to a resturant and didn't like the food, I would be considered an idiot if I ever went back.

Are you an idiot?

You do seem to keep going back.

Good ... not great but all in all a decent race. Chilly east wind blew the dirt away from us. We car pooled from Grinnell and spent 18 bucks apiece for gas as we're afraid Knoxville may be a no-go. Jeffrey's can't be happy with Hillier as that was a nasty looker from our seats. Some folks from Illinois next to us mentioned to us as they were lining up the feature it looked to be a Kaley Gharst benefit race. I replied this isn't the Sprint Invaders he running against and he'd be lucky to be in the top 8. I think he was like 9th and never was a factor before crashing late. 38 bucks for gas and a ticket was acceptable considering it's a 2 hour 45 minute drive. Rain ..rain go away .... come thru here mid week ...not Saturdays.

That was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Pittman put on a driving exhibition. Seeing all the fans there should tell the promoters that we like Sprint Cars in this area. I never went to the Derry Brothers Cab show but from what I heard they had about 400 paid attendance. Last night the parking lot was about full. They will have to park them a lot closer for the outlaws. Thanks for giving the Burlington area Sprint Cars again.

I might be going out on a limb saying this, but I think its due.  Last nights show was flat out wicked !!

I haven't seen that much racing action in years at any track, and at the pace those guys were racing at,  absolutely unreal !

For me, half miles just don't cut it.  I was at Knoxville last week for the Outlaws and it was an OK show, maybe even better than normal but compared to last night it was just another boring half mile race.  I was excited maybe 2 times.

But last night there were people yelling and cheering, arms in the air just about all night.

I know I was fired up big time.  The first heat was amazing, the feature was fantastic.

Great show at 34 !!
