On the Ocean speedway web site it now shows that Wright One Construction will be the sponsor for a 10 race series for 360 sprints. There will be an $8500 purse for each event. Rumor has it that they are also seeking 4-6 Golden State Series shows for 2007. Does not say whether or not the sprints will be added to the 5 or 6 other classes on Friday nights, or maybe be Saturday shows. At any rate glad to see the new management at Ocean taking on sprints. Judging by the attendance at this years Golden State events in Watsonville this is a smart move.

Didn't they try to add to their schedule after San Jose closed, only to be shot down by the locals?

Yes they did. The old promoter (Rick Farren) did not seem to have the local influence that current promoter John Prentice)does. I am not associated with the track so I can only speculate but Rick tried to keep all of his Friday night stock car dates and add sprint cars on Saturday, utilizing the track twice as many nights per year. The local berry farmers said to much dust.
Farren was a real nice person but the track was a family business and that is how he fed the family. With Prentice, he is a racer and is doing this to keep the track open and give something back to the local community. Not doing it for the $$. I am not talking trash about Farren as he was always fair to me, as a trackside vendor for over 10 years. Only my opinion.
Saw some changes this year and all were positives. Adding the 360s can only help the attendance numbers.

every sense the closing of the two best tracks this side of the Mississippi this area has been starving for sprint cars again.and with the improvements made to the track over the last year i think its possible for ocean speedway to become one of northern California's premier sprint car tracks lets hope that in the future thy can divide race nights between 360s and 410s as their main draw along with non-wing spec sprints on Saturday night and run all other divisions on Friday night now that would be a dream come true and i would support both nights

i am not positive about now,but at one time watsoville had a city ordinance that only only let the track race one night a week except for 2 to 3 weeks a year.
