I had heard the the fairboard up there was taking bids from potential promoters and was wondering if that has occured and if the Shaws are still promoters or what is going on? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

We set next to the Shaws last nite at the banquet and they said they were no longer the promotors of Enid. They said whoever was taking it over was going to have a big big point fund.

Lonny Coville will be the new promotor there with James longpine being the financial end of the deal.

here is a little story on it

A record number of drivers attended the rules meeting for Enid Speedway Park on Tuesday at Garfield County Fairgrounds. New track promoter Lonnie Colville and financial backer James Longpine took over what was called Enid Motor Speedway by previous promoters.

They kicked off the meeting by informing drivers of a pay raise of approximately 10 percent across the board. The new purses will pay as follows to win: modified $650, street stock $450, factory stock and economy modified $275, mini stock $200 and pure stock $135.

Purses are guaranteed, and there will be no cutting at the pay window due to low car count. Longpine advised the crowd if a class consistently has a low car count the division would be cut at midseason.

“While we will never cut pay, we will do away with a class at midseason if it is not profitable,” said Longpine. “If they can keep 13 or more cars we will be happy.”

Colville also announced the track was reinstating the driver’s championship fund for the first time in more than 20 years. The modified champion will receive $2 per point, street stock $1.50 per point, factory and economy modified $1 per point and mini stock 25 cents per point. The remainder of the top 10 in each division will receive 10 cents per point.

“This fund is separate from the 50/50 booster club’s fund,” said Colville. “We hope to give each of the drivers in the top 10 a little money to get their cars started for the next season.”

The only general rule change was a clarification on protests, which states if the track finds something illegal on the way to the protested part, the car will be declared illegal. Any money collected from illegal cars will go into the driver’s point fund.

Several rule changes were made in the street stock division, including allowing 8-inch clear lexan spoilers, with spoilers constructed from any other material limited to 5 inches. Competitors also will be allowed to cut a hole in the fender for the header.

Rules were clarified regarding the street stock nationals. Big motors only will be allowed during the $10,000 to win show. Competitors will not be allowed to run the large motors at any other event during the season.

In the factory stock class the rules were changed to allow any vehicle with a 108-inch wheel base to be used. This opens the division to Firebirds, Cameros and Chevelles for the first time in the history of the track. Competitors will be allowed to run a beadlock on the right rear tire only.

In pure stock the rules were changed to clarify no double pumpers will be allowed on carburetors.

Colville reassured the competitors he had never been a big fan of rule changes, and was willing to make major adjustments in the dwindling mini stock division to get the car count up.

He kicked off the session by throwing out the claim rule and the rule about tearing down the motor of a competitor who wins three “A” features in a row. The weight limit was raised to 2,300 pounds. The 11-inch hoop rule on tires was adjusted to 8 inches.

The engine rule was changed to allow big valve heads with no porting and polishing. Adjustments were made so that the fly wheel must be a stock-appearing, steel fly wheel (no aluminum) with a stock clutch and a spring.

There were no changes in the modified or economy modified divisions. Modifieds will continue to run NCRA rules, with economy modifieds adhering to SIMS rules.

All rule changes are pending approval by Garfield County Trust Authority.

Colville stated rule books should be available by the end of the year at Dunsworth Machine and Dirt Performance.

WOW 2 dollars a point could add up to be alot of money. If my addition is right somebody with 1700 points could end up with 3400.00 dollars. Thats alot of money. I hope that they can pay that kind of money. I would guess he would redo the point structure.

You are correct Champ that is alot of money. The Modified champion for 2006 had 1,804 points so that means he would have been paid 3,608 dollars on top of what the fifty fifty club would have given him. Wouldnt that be a good start to the next season for anyone. Yes they can pay that kind of money.

Wow mods, glad I asked and thank you so much for your information. USMTS in March? Are you serious? I will be there for this show no matter what and with it being the Longpines behind the scenes, you can be rest assured there will be more modified specials. I just hope they throw in a sprint race or two (or three).

I am somewhat trying to help NCRA get races at a couple of tracks and when I asked Paula last year about hosting an NCRA late model race in 2007, she said that they were going to be taking bids for the track during the winter. Now I guess we know there are changes. If all that takes place as far as point fund and pay does happen, there maybe a new track for modifieds and factory stocks to race at for 2007.

Hopefully they will make some changes and have actual results on their website instead of just car numbers. If you happen to have contact numbers or email addys, please let me know.

Thanks again.

Is Lonnie going to keep the tire rule the same where you can only run Hoosier's? I'd like to run up there a few times next year but I only run Goodyear's!

Enid track is a blast to race on. No other track like it in the state. Wait for it to go black and then stand on it!!
