Given SC's loss, can anyone think of a logical reason the BCS Championship game should not be OHIO STATE/michigan ? What a game that will be.

GO BUCKS!!!!!

Michigan's 1 loss was to the then & current #1 team. Florida's loss was to Auburn, #11 in the last BCS poll. Michigan should get their rematch.

Bottom line:

BCS will always pit a conference champion against a conference champion.

Therefore it will be OSU vs. Florida.

Thats incorrect, Scoop - its 1 vs 2 in the BCS rankings in the title game. In 2004, Oklahoma was #1, but got hammered in the Big 12 Championship game by Kansas State. They weren't even the champions of their conference, but still only dropped to #2 in the BCS standings, were ranked higher than Auburn & played USC in the national title game.

I said before and I'll stand by it. If USC were to lose they would give the title shot to Florida should they win. I still think that to be true. Politics will play a role despite the fact that Michigan is the second best team in the country.

Rationale....

Michigan had their chance and lost

Why give the Big Ten that much money

SEC is a much tougher conference this season

Why give a National title shot to a team that didn't even win their conference

Strength of schedule favors Florida with more tough foes.

Bandit ....that was the year OU played LSU for the National Title and lost.

And what about OU. If not for PAC-10 officiating and the NCAA acting as if their hands are tied (aren't they the ruling body of College Football? o wait that must be the guy that owns NIKE since we know he sends NCAA checks for using his product---also funny is that the guy that owns NIKE is an Oregon alumni.....hmmmmmmm) My Sooner actually have just 1 loss. I'll admit that was to 18th ranked Texas....while Michigan's loss was to #1 and Florida's to #11. So really the spot goes deservingly to either Florida or Michigan. It just pisses me off that OU isn't even mentioned in the race. Let me ask ya'll this. If Florida lost Chris Leak would they only have 1 loss? If Ohio State lost Troy Smith would they be undefeated? If Michigan lost their QB would they be 11-1?

Hell no! Hell no! and HELL NO! OU lost it's starting QB (a promising one......it SEEMED) then lost the best player in college football (adrian peterson). And still won out. We lost to Texas.....although we more beat ourselves than they did. But a loss is a loss. But the f-n Oregon game was NOT a loss. The one thing I've maintained all along is while that call was being made in Oregon......a lot of cell phones were ringing. And I'm not talkin about pissed off OU fans. I'm talkin about Pac-10 and NCAA officials. We'll never know the truth, but there is more to it than they say. The replay official in that game has already admitted that. And still our-what should be coach of the year-Bob Stoops has more class than to bitch about it. Not me tho. I don't get paid to have class when it comes to college football. So just as any other fan would bitch if that happened to their team.....I'll give my opinion. And now we go to the Fiesta Bowl where we will blowout Boise State by 38 points. Seriously now.....shouldn't Boise be playing Wake Forest? Talkin best matchups and being fair I would say they should. How it is now both Wake Forest and Boise might well be humiliated on the national stage. And thats a shame because from here on voters will be very biased about mid-major conference teams getting BCS at-large bids. The way NCAA runs college football we might as well ask Congress to run it instead. It's all business in the end ain't it?

No worries OKC, OU has a real young team with only 8 seniors. This team will be a monster in the coming years. Besides, I said it after the 3rd or 4th week, Ohio St is THE team this year. But, it STILL pisses me off that we get snubbed by the BCS all year long. At least the AP voters knew...

Here are some interesting points as posted on the ESPN site by Mark Schlabach:

"So here are the cold, hard facts when comparing the Gators and Wolverines:

1. Florida beat nine teams that are projected to play in bowl games. Michigan beat six.

2. Michigan beat five teams that finished the season with losing records. Florida beat two teams with sub-.500 records.

3. Florida's 12 Division I-A opponents had a combined record of 89-57. Michigan's 12 opponents had a combined record of 84-61.

4. Michigan's best win is considered a 27-13 victory over Wisconsin on Sept. 23. The Badgers are 11-1 and have climbed to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 poll, despite having played only one ranked opponent -- the Wolverines -- the entire season.

5. The 12 teams Florida defeated finished the season with 11 combined wins against opponents which were ranked in the AP Top 25 poll at the time the game was played. The opponents Michigan defeated claim just three wins against ranked teams (Notre Dame beat Penn State. Indiana beat Iowa. Vanderbilt beat Georgia. The Nittany Lions, Hawkeyes and Bulldogs, it should be noted, haven't been ranked in seven weeks).

6. The Gators went 3-1 against ranked opponents, beating then-No. 13 Tennessee, No. 9 LSU and No. 8 Arkansas and losing at No. 11 Auburn. The Wolverines went 1-1 against ranked opponents, beating a highly overrated No. 2 Notre Dame team (that lost to Michigan and USC by a combined total of 46 points) and losing at No. 1 Ohio State 42-39 on Nov. 18.

7. The Gators' average margin of victory against Division I-A teams was 13.5 points. They won seven games by 14 points or fewer, six by less than 10. The Wolverines' average margin of victory was 17.3 points. They won six games by 14 points or fewer, two by less than 10.

8. The Gators played Western Carolina, a Division I-AA team, and won by 62 points. The Wolverines played Ball State, which should be a I-AA team, and won by eight.

9. Since the Wolverines last played and lost at Ohio State, the Gators won at Florida State (The Seminoles are 6-6, but rivalry games are tough to win. Just ask USC coach Pete Carroll) and then beat the No. 8 Razorbacks, who defeated then-No. 2 Auburn and No. 13 Tennessee by 17 points each.

10. Michigan didn't win the Big Ten; Florida won the SEC. Winning your conference should be a prerequisite for playing in the national championship. "

Ohio State vs Florida.

Like coach Bob said, Michigan got their chance and lost. If, in fact, the BCS is politically inspired rather than crunching numbers in a computer, I don't see them setting up a game where the result will leave America still wondering who's number 1. Should Michigan beat Ohio State then what? A rubber match?

Agreed! They got the Big 12 Championship with 2nd and 3rd string running backs. He didn't let the week 3 screwing get to him and stayed focused.

Here's a solution:

How about an 8 or 16 team playoff to properly seed the Championship game? If we can come up with this idea, why can't the dinosaurs that run the College Bowls/BCS Standings see that this is the proper solution? Either Michigan or Florida is going to get screwed.

Look at the College BB tournament, it is huge for the conferences, teams, TV, everybody involved. A College FB tournament would likely be even bigger.

Well, maybe sometime in my lifetime..

Michigan had their chance?!!!!?????!!!!!????!!!!!????

If I'm not mistaken everyone says that michigan and osu are the two best teams in the country. Michigan lost AT osu by 3 points, Michigan Osu on a neutral field would have been a fantastic game, now the championship game will be like watching an alligator get turned into a pretzel. Urban Meyer was campaigning like crazy and said some stupid things, Michigan shouldn't have be penalised for finishing there season before the gaytors did.

Michigan / OSU on neutral ground would have been another great game.

Florida / OSU will be a blow out (OSU winning), mark my words.

The best BCS game will be the Rose Bowl. I can't wait for that one!

Hate to say I told you so, BUT........... Hell I told you the scenario three weeks ago. I guess you have to be a sports reporter to think like one....LOL!

It's a shame for the Wolverines, but not at all a surprise. You had to know they would spread the wealth.

HighVista...I also already put down the best possible playoff scenario on here a month or so ago as well. It incorporated the bowl games and would have made every major bowl game much more important than what some are now. With an eight team playoff you'd have seven bowl games that everyone would want to watch because the National Championship for someone would hinge on each game. The only problem would be that it is unfair and impossible to expect fans of the two National title teams in an eight team playoff to travel to THREE bowl games. Other than the logistical nightmares, it just makes too much sense.

A playoff with the AP's rankings would look like this....

#1 Ohio State vs #8 USC in the Gator Bowl (or how about using a midwest dome like Ford Field or Indianapolis since Ohio State is top ranked)

#4 LSU vs #5 Louisville in the Sugar Bowl

#3 Michigan vs #6 Wisconsin in the Cotton Bowl (or if we were using Midwest Domes, have this one at Ford Field and the OSU game in Indy)

#2 Florida vs #7 Oklahoma in the Capital One Bowl (could have switched this site with previous game if Oklahoma had been one of top four ranked teams)

Using the Midwest domes or bowl games closer to the higher seeded teams would make it easier for those teams fans to see the extra game with minimal travel, at least for round one. In some cases round two as well.

Round Two have OSU/USC winner vs LSU/Louisville in the Rose Bowl while the Orange Bowl plays host to the other two winners.

Championship Game in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan 8th. Opening Round on Christmas Weekend and semi final games on New Years weekend.

Problem is, you still don't have your ACC champ in the mix or Boise State. I can see dropping a third Big Ten team, and adding Wake Forest. But then the matchups would change to OSU/Wake, LSU/Louisville, Mich/Okla and Florida/USC. Sorry about your luck ND and Boise St.

If you look at the actual BCS standings you'll see that Boise IS actually top eight there. Drop Wisconsin because of the no three teams from a conf. rule and add Okla and Wake because they won their league titles, and this would again block out Boise St.

Think about it though, wouldn't you rather watch a Gator Bowl with OSU vs USC or Wake. Hell, EVERY bowl game involved in the playoff becomes a more attractive game than what they now have. You still would have your lesser bowls and wouldn't have to stoop to pulling Middle Tenn St or 6-6 teams to fill the bowl schedule. Makes so damn much sense that it will never happen.

How in the world was Notre Dame invited to a BCS game? what a farce!

Wisconsin, West Virginia. even Rutgers was more deserving. I hooe they get the SH*t kicked out of em. Off the top of my head the only good team they beat was UCLA. Who is a Jekyl & Hyde team. O well. Whereas the BCS didn't solve the problem by trying a playoff. They did expand the BCS to 5 games. Giving a team like Boise a chance they have deserved for a long time. Even if the Sooners do blow them out. Anybody want proof money and politcs DO run college football? The main reason they won't go to a playoff is because each bowl game is sponsored by corporations. If you're not part of the playoff......you're wasting your money. Take the corporate sponsors out and install a playoff? Never happen. Although I find pathetic we have a bowl game being brought to us ny Bell Helicopters. Am I the only one that sees how truly sad this is?

Thank you Mr. President for starting a war thus continuing our contract in BIG way. We will give back to the communtity by sponsoring a bowl game. Which I imagine constitutes for a very heavy tax write-off. If they're going that route.......giving back to the community and getting a tax write-off.......why don't they do what our government and charities have failed miserably at doing and help the TRUE victims of Hurricane Katrina? You know....not give em money. Just restore businesses help fix homes...you know.....the kind of stuff that REALLY MATTERS.

Politics ruin Everything!
