Hopefully im not alone here but after many years of goin to the races at Knoxville I'd have to say last night was a pretty good race night in a little way.  The program moved quick and it also had a touch of NASCAR of Yarborough and the Allisons, when Matrisin and Thompson just about went to fist a cuffs in turn 4 after the 360 feature,    Then watching Dennis Moore Jr.  and Gharst  throw a few hail mary sliders at each other it kinda gave a glimpse into the past when a little unsportsmanlike conduct adds a little excitement to the nights racing. Brownie made a hell of a run from the back of the pack to win although it looked like it was gonna be Skips night.   To some that watched the Nationals last year and saw the Lasoski family feud I heard  a few references that sprint car racing was a hillbilly sport, but  I think you gotta throw a bit of controversy in the mix for the fans, nobody wants to see anyone get hurt mind you, but i think a little controversy and some Heroes and Villans,  I guarentee you  might just start to see the stands fill back up at racetracks across the country.  I can still remember clearly that first 1200 pound Nationals that where held at Knoxville,  there was so much drama you couldnt of scripted it any better with the crash between Mc Carl and Droud, and nearly a fistfight to go along, then after the crash , Droud went on to win with a tweaked car  and McCarl came back through the pack with a junked out race car and put on a show,   there where to many laps ran under yellow and cars started running out of fuel and they didn't declare a winner untill about 3am when there where some discrepencies about weight, taped on or otherwise and some weighed in to light,  and there where many fans where arguing in the stands and sticking up for there drivers.   The sport and facilities have came a long ways for sure but  I always think of the famous   Lloyd Beckman from back in the day saying that if they didnt make any rules nobody would have to cheat :)   and who doesnt miss the come run whatcha brung era??        Lastly Sprint Car racing, NASCAR racing, and Indy Racing,   who woudlnt love to go back to the days when the driver could just say and do what was on his mind and not worry about sponsors or fines  :)

I for one seem to think that something is different, more than likely the tires.

Whatever it is, it is working.

Passing seems to be the norm now, not the exception.

It is nice seeing my "home" get some "home improvments"

Here's our take on the 48 -10 dust-up.  The 48 went to the inside of the 10 after the checkers  and may or may not have swerved at the 10 over in front of the HoF.  Contact however was made for sure between the right side of the 48 and the 10's left front. Contact was pretty minor but there was NO doubt that contact was made. The 10's l.f. wheel and/or spindle had some serious lean in it as Mitrisin recovered and chased the 48 down and angled him into the fence down by turn 4. If you are a Thompson fan it was an accident and Jeff over reacted to the deal, if you are a Mitrisin fan it was deliberate by Thompson and Jeff was p.o.'d rightfully so and retaliated in kind. From our seats it looked like a "racin" deal from the get go. As we talked in our group afterwards Thompson would have been much more likely to have clipped the 10's right front with his left rear rather than vice versus if he was wanting to inflict the maximum damage to the 10 with the least amount of possible damage to his 48. HELL !!! either way if was fun to see some emotion from the drivers and crew for a change.
