LONGTIME VETERAN BOBBY MICHNOWICZ WINS BAKERSFIELD LIGHTNING SPRINT CAR MAIN!

(Placentia, CA, April 30, 2011) Bobby Michnowicz, the 1994 CRA Sprint Car champion, scored his first ever win in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series at the Bakersfield Speedway on Saturday night. Michnowicz drove the same car that his teenage son Kevin used to win the first two races of the season at Perris Auto Speedway.

Subbing for his son, it was the first time the elder Michnowicz ever sat in the car and it was his first win since 2009 when he won in the VRA Senior Sprint Car Series at Ventura.

After finishing second in his heat race, Michnowicz, who makes his home in Lomita, started the 20-lap main event on the outside of row two. Dan Lancaster and current point leader Tim Brown of Wildomar were in the row in front of Michnowicz while Placentia's Dan Hillberg, who won the series last race at Ventura, was to his inside.

By the time the checkered ended the race on the "Fastest 1/3 of a Mile High Banked Clay Oval in the West," the USAC 2006 California Ford Focus champion had his first win in the CLS. Brown came home second to Michnowicz with Hillberg taking third. Rising teenage stars Alexander Bissett of Hemet and Carlsbad's Jacob Will, finished fourth and fifth. Will was making his second start in the Seth Kramer owned #12 after blowing up his own car the last time the CLS was at Perris.

Saturday's heat race wins went to defending CLS champ Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley and Corona's Darren Hillberg.

Brown, who now has three second place finishes and a fourth in four 2011 starts, maintains a comfortable lead in the championship point standings. Hillberg is 62-point behind the leader with Bissett, Will and veteran Dale Gamer rounding out the top five after four races.

The CLS has two races in the month of May. On the 14th, it will be at the Santa Maria Speedway and on the 28th it will be the Annual Salute to Indy with the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at Perris Auto Speedway.

The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank 2011 series sponsors Performance by Rosson Racing, DK Machine and Fabrication, Sander Engineering, Elliott's Powder Coating, Circle Track Performance, Hoosier Tires, Racing Optics, Electro Tech Powder Coating, Saldana Race Products, DJ Safety, Keizer Wheels and the Christian Stover Foundation.
