O.K Iowa speedway says Usac feature starting at 3:00 and ending at 5:30 Its gotta be an hour drive to Knoxville right? Has anyone been out to Iowa speedway for a race yet? Will traffic be a problem? I would rather miss part of the Silver Crown show than miss any of Knoxville. How many other fans are doing this weekend. I am also throwing in the IRA on Sunday. Will this really be a twilight show? What time do I have to be to 34 to get a good seat? Thanks for any info.

If the race gets over at Iowa Speedway before 6pm, you should be at Knoxville in plenty of time for time trials.

I know of one USAC sprint car driver who plaans to bring along the winged dirt car for Knoxville for the evening...

Thanks, Devin Heesch

Ia Speedway is about 35 miles from Knoxville.

I think they have developed a lot of good infrastructure to get fans in and out.

I doubt that they will have a huge crowd to contend with anyway.

If your going to schedule getting to K'ville in time for time trials, take note of something:

The midget race is scheduled to start at 3:00. If you look at the schedule, there are 30 minuets scheduled for EACH feature. That's if there are no yellows. Add yellows and the time between features and making the start of time trials @ K'ville could be challenging at best. Then again, isn't too many races really a GOOD problem to have? ;)

And just when did Knoxville start to worry about starting on time?

When did people start thinking that USAC was racing? Putt Putt in a circle with the Batmobiles.

I can be in a seat at Newton in less than 15 minutes along with an offer of a free ticket, however I'll pass and happily pay 12 bucks and drive 45 minutes to Knoxville and see exciting, unpredictable racing with a huge car count in 2 great classes. IMHO pavement racing with sprints or midgets is just plain boring. If you like and enjoy pavement racing here is your chance to support USAC and the Iowa Speedway. Take plenty of cash though ... it isn't a bargain from their admission price on down to the eats & drinks.

Only been to one pavement race not counting NASCAR so I would like to see this show. I am not expecting any where near as much exciment as I will see at Kville . If it does run long I will probably leave early for Knoxy.

To answer your question about 34 Raceway on Sunday for the IRA, the webpage says that grandstand gates open at 3PM, and qualifying at 5PM, I would guess that puts hot laps about 4:30 or so? Sprints and IMCA stock cars are running. $18 to get in.

My guess is a black 1 lane low groove tire burner........... but I'll still be there.

I can tell you that the USAC midget race at the Copper Classic at Phoenix International was always a very exciting race, usually the best of the show and the list of winners is impressive. Don't get me wrong, I'd give it all up for Manzanitas 1/2 mile but it was always a good show and then a lot of use would haul over for the sprint show at Manzy that night, the season opener for CRA OR SCRA.
