Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway
1083 N. Carr Road  Orrville, OH 44667 Office Phone: 419.522.8761 Track Phone: 330.682.7435 Fax: 419.522.0463 Ernie Coffman/Promoter - 419.522.8761 Chuck Griffith/General Manager - 419.496.9775 Email: [email protected] April 24, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway Fire Postpones Next Two Weeks Orrville, OH --- Management of Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH regretfully announced that due to last Saturday evening's fire that destroyed the track's concession stand and office in addition to causing significant electrical issues this weekend's weekly racing program and the following weekend's World of Outlaw Late Model Series races have been cancelled. Track management will issue a press release within the next several days announcing when the track will reopen after assessments are done. "It really saddens us that the fire happened," stated Ernie Coffman, owner & promoter of the track. "We are very grateful that no one was hurt, that's wonderful. However, there is significant damage to not only the structure but the electrical system at the track. We are currently speaking with officials of the health department and building departments of Wayne County, among others, to ascertain when we can get repairs started and new construction done in a timely manner. We hope to know more in a couple days when we'll be able to start renovations and get the track open again." Last Saturday evening April 21 around 10:30 PM the Modified and Mini Stock features were postponed due to the fire that started in the concession stand. The concession building and its entire contents were a total loss. Firefighters from the Orrville Fire Department and Apple Creek Fire Department responded and brought it under control. Apple Creek Fire Chief Les Durstine said the fire began in the deep fryer unit, the range hood, or in its vent pipe to the outside. The concession stand, located in the northwest corner of the grounds, was a total loss, with a preliminary damage figure of $100,000. The World Racing Group, who own the World of Outlaw Late Model Series, are disappointed in the cancellation but have expressed concern and support for the track. "Due to the misfortunes of Wayne County Speedway we have decided to cancel the entire weekend," commented Tim Christman. The series was originally scheduled to race at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, OH and Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway. "Raceway 7 and Wayne County complimented each other well and made it a great weekend for the teams, fans and the series. Our schedule is very busy this year and with the amount of travel our teams do we thought it would be in the best interest of everyone to cancel the weekend." "Plans are already in place for the same weekend in 2008. Once again, we hate this for the fans but we know that Ernie Coffman and his staff will have the place even better than it was and we look forward to our return."
