Leon Dale Spain, age 72 of Manhattan, died Friday, April 13, 2007 at the St. Joseph Village.

He was born on June 20, 1934 in Manhattan, KS, the son of Jess Robert and Beryl Louise (Cross) Spain.

On September 6, 1968 in Beatrice, NE, he was united in marriage to Johanna Weiland. She survives of the home.

Leon was a self-employed mechanic and iron worker for a local union. He attended First Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Johnny Lee Spain of Newport News, VA, Leona Dale Spain Staab of Manhattan, KS and Kim Spain Pitken of Baytown, TX; six sisters, Dee Kytta and her husband Ed of Wooster, OH, Pat Reid of Manhattan, KS, Linda Hern of Topeka, KS, Vicky Spain Berg of Topeka, KS, Martha Spain Broxterman of Topeka, KS and Donna Pickett Woodward of Wakefield, KS; one brother, Jim Clouse and his wife Judy of Silver Lake, KS; six grandchildren, Josh Staab, Brandi Peil, Colton Pitken, Connor Pitken, Kade Johnson and Jenny Spain and one great-grandson, Tray Mcnutt.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Joyce Spain Smith and Sandra Kaye Spain Warbritton and one brother, Robert Spain.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2007 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Engle officiating. Interment will follow in the Valley View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established for Homecare & Hospice, Inc. of Manhattan. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.
