I AM RESTORING A CAE SUPERMODIFIED THAT WAS LAST RUN IN THE EARLY 70'S. THIS CAR IS A PARALLEL TORSION BAR CAR. I WAS WONDERING IF ANY ONE OUT THERE HAD ONE THAT THEY COULD SEND ME SOME PICTURE AND/OR MESUREMENTS ON THE REAR RADIUS RODS. THE REAR END AND RADIUS RODS WERE MISSING WHEN I GOT THIS CAR. ALSO, IF ANYONE HAD ANY SET-UP INFO ON THIS TYPE OF CAR THEY CAN GIVE ME. THANKS FOR ANY HELP YA'LL CAN GIVE ME.

THERE WAS A CAE SUPERMODIFIED THAT RAN TOPEKA AND KANSAS CITY IN THE MID 60s. IT WAS NUMBER 131 AND OWNED BY CLANCY CLAFTIN THAT LIVED IN HOLDEN, MISSOURI. THE DRIVER WAS GUS (SOMEBODY). IT WAS A PARALLEL TORISON BAR WITH CAE CROSS SPRING FRONT. IF YOU CAN FIND ANYONE IN THOSE AREAS THAT HAS A PICTURE OF THE 131. I BUILT A CAE (BY CAE BLUEPRINT) CROSS TORISON REAR BUT IT WAS THE SPRINT CHASSIS WITH REMOVABLE CAGE WHICH WAS DIFFERENT THAN THE SUPER.
I THINK THE RADIUS RODS WERE THE SAME EXCEPT THE PARALLEL BAR HAD A SHAKLE MOUNT IN FRONT OF THE REAR AXLE. I COULD MAKE YOU A DETAILED DRAWING THAT WOULD WORK. THE LEFT MOUNT HAD HOLES TO MOVE ARM UP OR DOWN AND THE RIGHT SIDE HAD A MOUNT FOR A SHAKLE FROM THE BAR ARM TO THE MOUNTING BRAKET. THEY WERE FIFFERENT.

The rear radius rods were usually of a hair pin design and mounted to the frame in line with to just in front of the u-joint.
LLBrew91 fails to mention that he also built the most successful car in the mid west. The car won 7 point titles in 5 years with 3 owners and 3 drivers 66-70 and was still winning races as late as 1974!!!!

Curt,
The car finished 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in time trials, trophy dashs, heats and features 90 times during the 66 racing season. Ray Lee Goodwin drove it nearly all the time. Thad Dosher drove it one week end and had a some wins. I sold it to Jack Cunningham in June, 1967 and Ray Lee won the next 8 features & Thad won the Knoxville Nationals.
Good to see your name again.

Brian26,
No the car was dismanteled in 71. I sold it to Jack Cunningham (Independence, MO) in June 67. He sold it to Gary Hanna (Topeka, KS) at the end of the 69 season. Gary sold it to Bailey Bros Speed Shop (West Sacramento, CA) at the end of the 70 season. It was wrecked beyond repair in Oct 71 on the Sacramento Mile Track. Bailey Bros used the parts to build a new 4 bar sprint car for the 72 season. I have a picture of the 4 bar car.
I built the car with a T-Coupe style body and Jack Cunningham changed the body to a sprint. I copied the chassis built by Willie Davis that Greg Weld drove to second in USAC points in the 65 season. I tried to drag a picture of it into this messaqge but it did not work.

That car would have to be in the top ten list of the all time supers. And that is an understatement.
