I find it very interesting that Chad lost his ride. As always there are a number of very good drivers that are out there and a shortage of equipment. Here are a couple of thoughts.

1. Why is everyone so obsessed with WoO? Unless you are up top, the profit level is zilch and you have to work your butt off. I am not sorry to see Chad off and won't be sorry to see some of these other guys fall off either. If these guys were "money racers" they would look at todays best money racers and figure out what they did. Why is no one trying to use the McCarl playbook. If I am a nicely funded owner, I am running Knoxville and Husets with a variety of Friday shows mixed in. The Knoxville championship alone is worth a nice chunk of change and there is money to be made at Husets(sorry to Dobmier and Peters). Plus, if you can talk the Rubins into some tow $ you can make a very nice living running that playbook. Mix the Friday IRA shows, the Friday WoO shows and the touring national ASCS shows and you can run for 2500 to 3000 to win or more for 70% of the Friday nights.

 

2. Since when did being a weekly racer at both Attica and Fremont and KC become chopped liver? These tracks can put some $$ in the pocketbook for these drivers. Both tracks pay well plus you have the All Stars and WoO coming around enough to put some serious money in your pocket. Obviously PA is the same, but more difficult with Rahmer, DeWease, Hammer ect.

3. It seems as if people have forgotten about confidence. Remember how Lasoski and Forbrook used to fatten up on the local guys and then would take a run at the Outlaws. They kept getting better all the time and came loaded for bear when the they went out on the road.

4. 3 good drivers without rides. Shane Stewart, Chad Kemenah, and Chad Layton. I am suprised no one is trying for an All Star Championship run. Obviously Webb is a little bit off of his rocker and that scares a lot of owners, but they pay their bills and have a nice set of races. Paulus should be in great shape this year. Wilson and Smith are tough, but beatable.

pullins quit after last year peterbuilt running non wing usac stuff and i dont know the osbornes i never knew ozzy had a sprint team or a trucking company

Not everyone has a budget (or lifestyle) suited to run all over the country and race 90 times a year. The is certainly much to be said for being a good local and regional racer. Maybe the World of Outlaws can regionalize, so the series can help grow 410 sprint car racing as well as have plenty of cars in its stable at out-of-the-way tracks. Let the teams that are funded nationally compete for the national WoO title (maybe 10-12 teams) and the rest can run regional/local shows and work to gain that winning combination.

The sport needs to develope local racing interest/talant so that the top of the sport can remain strong. The All-Stars series is one example. The Golden State Challenge series is another. The PA Posse all race enough locally to be strong competitors. Maybe some day, a Midwest/Plains series can be established to return 410 racing to the region from Minnesota to Texas. Maybe the WoO can foster something similar. With the apparent desire to have unity in rules, ect., perhaps this should be a goal.

I think if you took the race teams from about 12th on back in the points and they raced locally/regionally, you'd see some of these guys get in the habit of winning and establish themselves as "names" in the sport.

chad layton is driving for his dad i believe. Plus he has a 358 ride with another team again i believe. Check his web site.

interesting the points 1-3 repudiates the stance taken by your head cheerleader MSPN...and is precisely what POSSE fans have been saying for years!

too bad you have to race by several hundred miles of corn field to find the next nearest track.

Chad Layton is driving the U1 again and the 360 sprint car for his brother Jimmy at Susky with that new series. He is hoping to pick up some sponsors along the way to help add more races to his schedule. www.chadlayton.com

Running the All Stars full time in 2006 took a huge chunk of change with the co-sanction shows all over bfe, rainouts galore, and cancelled races for whatever reason. On top of all that, diesel was at an all-time high. Chad Blonde, the 2006 All Star Rookie of the Year, is also looking for a ride as his family was forced to park the familiar orange 5B for the time being. So add his name to the Chad Kemenah, Shane Stewart, and Chad Layton list of great drivers looking for a ride. I don't doubt for a second there will be more names to add to the above list yet in a few more weeks when the local tracks start opening up.

BRR-I don't read Mike or your posts so I can't comment on anything you are saying. Sorry.

However I will agree that it is unfortunate that in the Midwest there are not more 410 tracks. I think everyone hopes that one day Cameron could get it together and put together a good program. It had a nice start, but seems to really be backtracking now.

Money to be made at Husets? Thats the funniest thing I have heard in a while. How do you figure to make money at Husets?

For the money it takes to field at 410 team its amazing there is as many teams as there is out there. Most 410 teams are owned by someone who owns a business and can cover most of the expense with there business and get a few sponser dollars along the way to help out. Soon the WoO will be down to 18 to 20 teams and thats all they need to get by. The rest will fold or run a part time schedule. There will be many good drivers without rides who will probably end up in a 360 somewhere.

Whatever happened to...Osborn & Sons Trucking???

Dean Osborn is still teamed with Kim Mock. At times, the team broke out the No. 53 and Charlie ran it last year in a partial schedule. Osborn and Son's Trucking is the sponsor of Qualifications for the IRA in which dolled out some cash for each fast timer. The Osborn 80K was parked/scrapped at the end of 2K5 when Mike Kertscher parted ways as is now an instructor for Skip Barber driving school. I want to say that 4th Osborn car was just a one-time deal for who was that Jamie McDonald (?) I forget, who it was-an Aussie or New Zealand driver...
