Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (March 5, 2007) – The American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region fires to life this Saturday night with a $1,500 winner's share up for grabs in the series' season-opening wingless Sprint Car event atop Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval in Phoenix, AZ.
A stout field of competitors, including past champions Jeremy Sherman, Bob Ream, Jr., and Josh Pelkey, will vie for the honors of capturing the inaugural ASCS Canyon Region event, with an extra $1,000 included in the feature purse courtesy of Maxum 2L Custom Trucks.
That trio of past champions will face plenty of stout competition, with Mike Leslie, Jeff Henry, Bernie Smith and Andy Reinbold among those that will contend for the crown.
After earning Rookie of the Year honors last year, 16-year-old Michael Colegrove leads a talented set of young guns that also includes 15-year-old Chad Boat and 16-year-old rookie contender Nick Aiuto.
Other drivers that have already registered include Chris Edwards, Jody Wirth, Adam Wirth, Ryan Linder, Seainn Hendricsen, Bobby Taylor, Josh Foster, Matt Lundy, Kevin Wolfe, Chris McArthur and Derek Williams.
In addition to adding $1,000 to the feature purse, Maxum 2L Custom Trucks will also award each heat race winner an extra $200, thus boosting the $50 certificate that will be awarded to each heat race winner over the course of the year. Racing Optics sponsors heat race one, with Parker Store sponsoring heat race two, Kenz & Leslie/BG Chemicals sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four.
Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Pole Dash, while Sunoco will also award a $50 certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year.

The ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in wingless Sprint Car racing to Arizona in 2007 with a slate of 24 events. In addition to Manzanita Speedway, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
