Just saw where Dave Helm recently passed away. Sad news.

One of the most impressive performances I've ever seen was Steve Kent, in the Selma Shell 11H, from the back of the field, rim riding around the 1/2 mile at the All Star show in OKC for the win. How long ago was that? '95? Still impressive.

I know this is one of Dave's all-time favorite drives.

Yeah and Kent got fired right after that trip. I couldn't figure out why. That was also the night Frankie Kerr stuck Neighbors in the wall on the first lap in turn 2.

Kent got fired because Dave Helm ordered the car back to California right after Knoxville. Well, Kent and the team had other ideas and ran the whole Thunder Through the Plains tour with the All-Stars and NCRA. When the team finally returned home, Kent got fired.

Bill is right, that is one of the my favorite races at SFS history as you could see him coming from the back and even with three laps to go it looked as though Bobby Davis, Jr. (Davis Electric #6) couldn't be touched. But Kent rim-rode the top and caught Davis and of course the crowd roared with its approval.

Helm has been around along time, sad to hear of his passing.
