MRF Dreams Become Reality at Bay Cliff

November 10, 2006

The Michael Ross Foundation (MRF) was created with one simple mission statement, to help improve the lives of handicapped children. The focus of the MRF has been to support the Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay, Michigan. Bay Cliff serves to severely handicapped children with a six-week summer camp. The camp funding is raised to help remove financial burdens from the children's families so the visits are completely covered including physical therapy, dental and medical check-ups or medical equipment the children may need. The children participate in camp activities and are taught specific learning strategies to aid them and their handicaps.

With buildings constructed as early as 1918, some of the Bay Cliff Health Camp facilities could benefit from renovations to best utilize the building. Currently, the Teen Center is housed in a building that cannot be used next summer due to safety concerns. Keeping the children's needs in mind, the MRF had implemented a long-term goal of funding the renovation of the Bay Cliff Barn Complex. The Barn Complex will become the Program Center and hub of program activity for the camp. Another part of the project will be to relocate the current laundry operations from the barns to an improved Children's Clothing Center and Laundry. These upgrades are not only necessary, but they will also channel a great sense of excitement throughout Bay Cliff.

MRF founders Tony and Kathy Ross along with board members Brian and Nicole Barton and Danny Lasoski have been the driving force behind this goal. "This Camp is a very special place and is something we all believe in. The Barn Complex is a huge project, but the dividends will be even bigger for the kids at the camp. The renovations have begun and I personally can't wait to see the finished product. It is exciting to see the impact the foundation has made and inspiring to see everyone's hard work paying off. We have a lot of great people behind us helping to support this project and none of this would be possible without the continued support," said Ross.

Danny Lasoski and fellow members of the racing community have been big supporters of the foundation also by holding celebrity golf tournaments and foundation sponsored races with all proceeds going to the camp. "This gives us a chance to get together and raise money for a cause we all believe in. Our past events have included drivers from sprint car racing, NASCAR, NHRA drag racing and related media celebrities. It is a lot of fun but also very rewarding to know that we are raised some serious money for the Bay Cliff Camp," said Lasoski.

The Barn Complex total dollar commitment is $1.1 million dollars. The MRF's goal is to support this project until it becomes a reality.
