I have vivid memories of that night at Baylands! I was sitting at the end of turn 4 grandstands to view the inferno. I think with all the bad luck Mike had over the years both on and off the track :) That night was his luckiest day on the planet.

I was there that night. I remember that they had to use the water truck to smother the fire. They had used up all the fire extinguishers. Now, the Oakland A`s are goig to build a new stadium near where Baylands use to be.

I was also in the turn 4 bleachers that night as usual. That was a Friday the 13th. Haud was in the 63 Hampshire car. He had to get the hook on that car himself as the tow truck driver was not going any where near it. Milan Garret was the other car involved. His own # 21 car which was rebuilt overnight at BKs shop and won the B main the next night. Milan was one of the first drivers that Marks and Keppler hired when they formed a team.
Shrek and wetntacky, I am new to this board. Been watching for a while but this topic hit home. First time I have written. Guys we have to know each other.

I bet we did run into each other in the beer line or waiting for some of the awesome Silva Linguicias I miss so much. You can't find any Linguicia at all in the midwest that I have found. Every so often I have 5 lbs of the stuff shipped from SJ to Chicago!
BTW, I went to Leigh High class of 78 so we definately must of crossed paths for sure.

I went to Peidmont Hills class of 75. I used to have the concession stand at SJ and Watsonville selling stickers, hat pins, diecast and anything else to make a nickle. Took my grandma from Ohio to Baylands one time. She had never even heard of linguica. Well we stopped at the Silva sausage factory where she sent 10 lbs home. Great stuff.

shrek. When SJ closed I sold most of the stickers to the folks that are still at Watsonville.(Gold Coast Diecast) Darrel passed away 2 years ago but his wife Barbara still does Wats. on Fridays. I sold most of the pins to some guy back in Indiana doing car shows. I should say I gave them away as all I ever got was the initial down payment.
Do you remember the little kids that used to play behind the turn 4 bleachers at Baylands? AJ Allendinger of Cart and now Nascar land was one of those kids. Great to see local boy does good even if it is not on dirt. His parents were turn 4 bleacher creatures also. Go AJ...

DAVE!!!! Is that you stickerguy?!! Haven't seen you since lunch at that Milpitas strip mall. I wasn't there at Baylands that night in '84 but didn't miss many Sat nights there. Didn't actually meet the Drunkster (Hardin) or 2dfloor until later after Baylands was closed. I had the NARC concession in the early 90's and also sold Farrin's track stuff at SJ just inside the front door. We still do Silva's at HoserVille!!!!
