#16 for me, my how times have changed...

The track surface was horrible on Saturday and it wasn't much better on Thursday and Friday. They need to get rid of the roller, it packed the track so tight that no water could get in and the cushion that we have all loved over the years was nonexistent after Wednesday. Quit trying to re-invent the wheel and go with the prep that has given great racing for the last 20 years. After sitting for 12 hours Saturday only to see the huggypole "A", for the first time, I have had doubts of attending #17.

I said in 2002 that the worst thing that could happen to the Chili Bowl is for Tony Stewart to return to "The Bowl" (no offense). At the time I predicted that it would be ruined by the obnoxious NAPCAR fans that would only attend to catch a glimpse and an autograph. He won in 2002 and sure enough, in 2003 the stands were "littered" with couples in matching Home Depot outfits. Now with Kasey Kahne and J.J. Yeley in NAPCAR it is getting worse and worse....people standing during races and one dumbass even threw a beer can out on the track. That is a first in my 16 years...

Tony Bockhoven - Dude, please give it a rest. Not everyone is "hip" to your inside jokes and gibberish. Pay attention to Randy Ward, Mike Sweeton, Rob Knepper and Bobby Gerould and learn what it takes to be a great announcer. No BS, just straighforward announcing and speaking only when you have something worth listening to. I lost count on how many drivers/numbers you got wrong. I sometimes think that you were only speaking to listen to yourself talk........And I wasn't alone, there were many around my group that felt the same thing. Sometimes, silence is good.

It's time to do something about the rough driving. I realize that it IS the Chili Bowl, the greatest race on the planet, but come on! It's getting ridiculous.

Kasey Kahne, so what, you had a tough qualifying night. So did 240 other drivers. Suck it up and run your best. There are a lot of drivers that are in junk equipment that would love to start the alphabet in a Wilke-Pak car. If you heart isn't in it, I understand.....maybe you should stay home next time.

Why were concession prices higher for the Chili Bowl than they were for the Tulsa Shootout?

Though I didn't keep count, there were a number of cars that came out of the Tuesday "Qualifier" that were very competitive. Why not make it a full 5 day event?

Tony Stewart is the greatest driver to come along in the last 30 years.

OK, a guy gets taken out by another driver and he gets an automatic transfer into the next race. Is that a new permenant rule?

Provisionals suck, I don't care who you are or how many championships you have. Race your way in, or do like everyone else, run the alphabet. If you don't make it, there's always next year. Take a vote of the fans and I think you'd be supprised.

Did Ray Bull break the altitude AND distance record???

Gary Altig, his phone should be ringing off the hook. I have never seen a driver this young drive with that much maturity. The big dogs never shook him all week and he never lost his head.

Once again, a "traditional" midget wins.

I hope that Brain Carter is better at running DIRT than he is at running a midget.

To my Wisconsin connection. Once again, I had a great time hanging out with you guys, now YOU know exactly who you're hanging out with. LOL. I hope you guys had a safe trip home and I hope to see you all at Sun Prairie some time this year.

" people standing during races" made me think of a time at the Copper Classic, when it was still the "gathering of the clan" and a class act.

A whole bunch of jerks had two boxes in the front and were still standing up well after the start of the 25 mile midget race and were in everyones way. At first they were asked nicely to sit down and they just got obnoxious and let the alcohol do the thinking for them. They knew not what kind of crowd they had chosen to partake in a racing event with. Before long half of the Jimmy Bryan section was yelling at the fools and the alcohol decided decided to yell back. When the ice and drinks started flying down on them and things were starting to get out of hand those poor guys were escorted out of the stands to be never seen again....It was a beautiful sight to see. The biggest ovation of the day!

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

I wasn't at the Shootout but if such was the case, that's just wrong. I have attended all types of major sporting events. I understand the fairboard gets the revenue from the concessions so, no finger pointing to the promoters. Still, I ask you, my fellow sports fans...........

When have you EVER seen coke prices the same as beer prices as we did at this years CB event? That was a first for me and left me trying to figure how to rationalize that senario. There's making a profit and then there's just all out greed!

Dude this was my first ever Chili Bowl and to be honest I wasn't all that impressed. The racing was the the only decent thing about it and I bet had I seen what a good track looks like at the Chili Bowl I would have thought this week's tracks sucked ass. Saturday nights track was a joke. And did any of ya'll see Lanny Edwards? I go to a ton of that guys races a year and he is wired to the max in each and every one. He must have been on Xanax or somthin b/c he everytime I saw him he was gazing and smiling from ear to ear. I was shocked. Maybe that explains some of the shitty track conditions. From what I hear Emmet Hahn was callin most of those shots as well. Yeah this was my first. And a great experince that I'm glad to have done. But for the money charged, breathing in enough fumes to kill a house pet, and dealing with stupid nascar fans that don't have a clue what good racing is, at least the track could have been better. It didn't seeem like they were getting any results for all the effort they were putting in to it. And god forbid people smoke in the building..........like cig smoke is going to combine with the fumes and drop people like flies. I dont think fans should smoke in the stands---but when the place is already filled with smoke and fumes and no one is smoking in the stands..........what on earth is wrong with them going ANYWHERE else to smoke?

Well all things considered it was cool. I had a great time(it was my 1st). Saw some damn good racing. met quite a few cool people. But everything else was kinda lame. Put it this way.......I think I would rather save my money ----which when it comes to the chili bowl is a lot-------and hit up some other non-wing or 410 events outside my region (oklahoma). Or maybe even take a trip to Belleville or other tracks I've never seen. Maybe even hit up all 10 nights of Knoxville in August or even the Short Track Nationals in Little Rock. I just think maybe from here on out my racing money could be spent in much better ways, but I imagine next year after 2 months of no racing........I'll feel differently and be dying to go back. It's too soon to say exactly how I feel about it.

I have been coming to the Chili Bowl for 19 years. We used to have great race tracks for the racers to run on which made for great racing. In the last few years the track officials have become obsessed with track maintanance (or selling Beer). It seems that every time the track gets racy the FARM EQUIPMENT comes out making it a one laner gain which in turn causes the racers to move people out of the way rather than find a racing groove that allows them to pass without contact. To many Yellows and not enough racing.

My chili bowl thoughts:

This is not a sunday show. There should be No Provisionals! for the chili bowl. I don't care if it's one of my favorite drivers or who it is, this is not nascar. Race your way in or watch the show.

Is Sammy going to be banned from the chili bowl? Other drivers have been banned for life for doing the exact same thing. I have never cared one way or the other about him, but he was obviously having engine/car trouble in the corners, and his car stalling had caused 2 wrecks. He should have pulled off long before any of this developed. His antics under caution were total bs.  and I don't have a problem with the free transfer pass that was going to given, Sammy did not just take someone out during racing, he took them out during a caution which should not be tolerated.

There were some good races on Saturday, but why couldn't they work the track for the A main? They had time, they should have chopped and watered the whole thing, give those guys something to race on. What a let down for a final event.

Since there is hardly any room for the trade show anymore, they need to make the show next door free. $10 to look? Come on. I would have bought a couple things I was looking for, but I am not paying just to see if they have what I need.

I missed seeing the two seater out there. Seems like we used to have time for more fun. Not sure more and more cars = more fun. Maybe its getting too big. I enjoyed the years when there was time for a celebrity race, or the focus midget exhibition.

Five day show now for next year? That will just mean higher ticket prices.  Not sure about it being a better show.  Gary Altig was impressive though.

I think I have finally learned my lesson.  Not going to try and eat at Denny's after the show.  Went to the Denny's at I44/Yale afterwards, and surprisingly it was half empty.  We had terrible service, and after watching them lose and mix up orders, and waiting an hour to get our food, thought I would politely complain to the manager.  She offered no apology and said this is what its like when they are slammed with people?? (seating open everywhere, no waiting) and our waitress said we should have seen it the night before, when it took 2 hours to get food.  Won't be back there.

If we all chip in, maybe we can get Tulsa some salt and plows. And what a drive home, thought the cimmaron would be my best bet, didn't realize OK doesn't even attempt to clear its highways. That was a slow and exciting drive.

Hey Hawker I don't know where you sit, but that CUSHION is great for racing but when you get hit in the head with it IT SUCKS!!!!

I thought the races where pretty good maybe not to the standard that it has been in years past but the bar has been set pretty high.

I thing this rule was created for Sammy back in 97' if memory serves me correct.

And to all Chili Bowl bashers STAY HOME NEXT TIME and leave me more room in the stands and a shorter line to the bathroom.

David....add a trip to Ohio for Speedweek sometime and you can stay at my place for free. That'll save you some bucks! Hawker, same offer for you or any other racing fanatic. It's a great week of racing and I am centrally located. Might make you drive a night or two though! Hahaha!

Someday I will make it out to the Chili Bowl, just not enough vacation time to do everything I have to do. Plus this is my busiest season of the year. Sorry to hear things weren't as perfect as they used to be. If nothing else, you guys saved me $60 as I was going to order the DVD. But if the passing was basically rough driving, I won't bother.

Glad to see you all made it home ok!

OKCFan12 - Dude, I hope you don't let the 2007 Chili Bowl form your opinion of years past. I have seen some outstanding racing there through the years, but this one sure wasn't the one to make your first. Also, Emmett has always called the shots when it comes to the track prep.

[email protected] - I couldn't have said it better!

cjt - I really don't mind paying more if I can see more racing, but they'd better have the track right. After all, I feel that for years the Chili Bowl is the best bang for the buck. As far as eating goes, Cotton's is the best bet. Driving by it looks like a $hithole, and it is a bit out of the way, $5.00 will fill you up and you'll be out in 30 minutes.

sprintcarman - I have seen all but 3 of my Chili Bowls from section H on the frontstretch. So we only get pelted with the little stuff. However, I WAS in section "A" in 2003 when the chunks the size of a loaf of bread were coming at us. Matter of fact, this year one of the windows got knocked out on the East end and the dirt clods stuck to the walls made it look like Martins were nesting there!!! LOL. Agreed, the bar has been set awefully high, but for years I come to "The Bowl" wondering how they could ever top the previous year, and they did, until this year.

CoachBob - I would still recomend the DVD. There was some outstanding racing earlier in the week and the "schooling" the Leffler gave Hines on Friday along with the Red #6 going around turn 4 ON THE FENCE (It looked like something from the Joie Chitwood Thrill Show)on Saturday afternoon is worth the cost alone. As far as the offer goes, I might just take you up on that, I am looking at hitting some more out of state stuff for 2007 and that is one set of events that is on my must see list. I too would like to return the offer. If you ever want to come to Missouri for a race, let me know, you'll have a place to stay. I am 50 minutes from Lake Ozark and so far, there are 2 WoO races booked there this year.

Thanks for the info on getting some food.  Will have to try that next time.

I agree the bowl has sure changed since Tony won his first one.  That's when the car counts went crazy high and the fans changed.  I agree its a lot of bang for the buck too, unfortunately I can only use so much vacation time up on it, so they keep adding days, but if we can't get away from work, then no extra bang for our troop.

I have thought the same thing too about the show being great and it would be hard to top, and then the next year is great again.  So whoever said the bar has been set high was right.  I guess they can't always top it, and even though we kind of expect it, they can't all be great.  This one wasn't.  I just wish they had attempted to work the track better for the A.  The track normally goes away by the end of the 50 lapper anyway, but hopefully next time they give them something decent to at least start with.

Trade show used to be a lot bigger.  I really liked it as well, but each year it gets smaller.  I have purchased several items inside Expo hall over the years but not much lately as the stuff geared for racers keeps going away.  Just east of the track there was a racers trade show and swap meet in the exhibition building, but they wanted $10 admission.

I think the main thing I've noticed is when the car counts were under 200 ( which is still a huge bang for the buck) we had more time to walk around the pits, bs with the guys, even on Saturdays, and there was more of a big party feel to it.  Remember having room for a basketball court inside?  That was fun stuff. So was watching a fan ride around in the two seater while its riding the cushion inside that small track, and I thought it was great to watch some non-dirt guys to run the focus cars around there that one time.  Fun stuff between the intense racing.  Nobody really tries to bring old underpowered cars anymore either to try for some bowl luck.  You've got to have pretty decent stuff to run there now.

As a whole I did not notice any more rough driving than nomal for the chili bowl.

I'm bring my own salt and shovel with me next time.  See you all next year!

.

As I posted elsewhere, I too agree that there is no excuse for not reworking the entire track before the A feature Saturday night.  They had plenty of time and the track was obviously already a piece of ___ oh, we're not supposed to talk like that here, huh?

I thought the racing and the track were both great Tues., Wed., and Thurs.   Friday they never got the track right and Saturday they didn't keep up with it for the "bigger" races.  It's a shame when it gets down to the nitty gritty transfer races that they don't fix the track, and no excuse for not prepping it for the A.  There was some good racing in the earlier features on Saturday.   I was pleasantly surprised at the caliber of racing Tuesday night.
