Its up to twelve regions now! I am an avid ASCS fan and have followed the series since the beginning back in 1992,but I am starting to think Emmett Hahn is getting a "BIG" head again. With the inception of the "REBEL" series he is crossing into Pete Walton's backyard of Alabama,Georgia, and Florida. If you have been keeping tabs on the car counts with the USCS in these areas, it not exactly a hot-bed for sprint cars. With the few exceptions the car counts have been rather sparse. It seems like a bit of a feud could brew up from this latest deal Emmett Hahn has brought into play. Who knows...

I don't think it's too many, it's not like there are 3 regions in the same state. Each region, that I am aware of, only encompasses 2 or 3 states, which is about right for a regional racer isn't it?

Pete Walton and Emmitt Hahn have never been best buds as each of them tries to out do the other. It will be interesting when the schedules are released how many shows each of the series have. The Mid-South region only had 6 shows in 2006, does that really count? I am surprised ASCS has not branched to somewhere in the west yet. On the east coast ASCS is pretty much got everyone covered except the NRA, ESS, and URC areas and in pretty much all those areas ASCS is pretty close to them.

Sure would be nice to have some ASCS and USCS schedules!

Here in the upper Midwestern areas of Minnesota and the Dakotas formerly sanctioned by Wissota (primarily a Late Model and Modified promoters association) we have been pleased with what we've seen so far from the ASCS. Wissota used to sanction the 360's up here and dropped them at the end of the 2005 season. The Wissota 360's weren't well known nationally but we've had some pretty good drivers who got their start racing Wissota. 2006 WoO champion Donny Schatz and 2006 IRA Champion Travis Whitney are two names people might recognize.

Anyways, Wissota dropped the 360's in favor of their fendered agenda and we saw our first season of ASCS racing last year. In 2006 all the races I attended were regional but this coming season there's an ASCS National race at North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minnesota. From what I saw last season I think the ASCS is going to be a good thing for this area. They're established and know what they're doing but I'm sure in some areas they'll be competing with established clubs. We should never forget that racing is a business and these things have a way of shaking themselves out as we saw with the 410's last season.

Nope, not too many. All those regions brings at least ten more cars to that area hence, more sprint car drivers and tracks to hold sprint car races. Here is my opinion on the Emmett and ASCS/Petey and USCS deal, ASCS has been around since 1992 and most of their employees have stayed in tact and not hurting for help nor sending out press releases searching for somebody to fill positions that can't be kept.

Seems Emmett is building a basis for the next couple of years, could it all come together in the end for something bigger?

Hopefully when it all "shakes" out, the USCS will still be stable in their home region. I personally am not a big fan of either one, but I really don't want to see Hahn & the ASCS completely rule the 360 sprints. The USCS does offer asphalt races to those fans who prefer that over dirt, that may be one thing that will help USCS. I personally prefer an unsanctioned 360 race over an ASCS show, the ASCS shows I have attended were not overly impressive. I guess we'll have to wait & see if Hahn can keep a quality show in a dozen different places at one time. JMO

Before Fred Brownfield's death, his stated goal was to have the Northern Sprint Tour become an ASCS affiliated series, the new owner's have taken it a step closer by naming the new series NSCS and continuing the switch to ASCS rules.

It's only a matter of time, and the refusal of most of the Cali promoters in adopting the head restrictions is a major stumbling block.

Disclaimer:

It's one mans opinion, and worth exactly what you paid for it, and I'm certain those promoters have perfectly valid reasons for being the only 360 organizations of any note west of the rockies to remain on an 'Open' 360 formula.

nobby, I agree with you. Although I fully support most of what ASCS does or tries to do. Although I thik he gets wayyyyy to ancy with that National schedule. It's even bigger than last years and we all saw what happened to that. I think ASCS has a good thing goin, especially with the regions. Here in Oklahoma, which is one of the best regions they have, I've rarely been disappointed with anything about the show. As far as out west. it's suprising to me that they have not expanded beyond the rocky mtn. region. But if the last 3 years is any sort of forecast.......thats sure to change. And if the majority change I think those Cali tracks can only hold out for so long.

OKCFan12 You are quite correct about the ASCS Sooner region being one of the best regional groups in the ASCS contingent. I to fully support the ASCS,but sometimes it seems like too many regions overlap one another. I would fully support having the regions, but also running NATIONAL point races in the areas where all the regions lie. Tow the NATIONAL series drivers around to compete with the 12 regional series. Then it can be stated that you have a true NATIONAL series.

Up here in Minnesota where Late Models and Mods dominate we're happy anytime there's any kind of Sprint Car race. There are a couple tracks that have open shows and those have been pretty good.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Pete Walton was the first regional coordinator for ASCS Southeast, then, the next year, instead of continuing to do that he started USCS instead. Am I completely incorrect in my memory?

spend some time reading about the California Sprint Car Civil War. Its the best regional 360 series in the country. They have no need for ASCS help.
