Don is a wise businessman..........just protecting his edge in the market.

My guess is that the engine he bought was "The Killer". I had heard rumors that he spent upwards of $70k in R&D for that block.

The going consensus seems to be that Ott got in a bidding war with a representative for Paul Kistler trying to protect his business interests. While the billet block was banned two summers ago now... supposedly Don has still perfected a ultra light/high rpm combination that holds up, using some NASCAR tricks among others. The engine itself is rumored to go for only around $50k however, and several different race teams supposedly ran them around the country last year. I’m guessing he just didn’t want one to fall into the wrong hands... $71,000 so much so...lol.

Nov 28th Full Throttle Racing Show

John Katich: What happened to the billet block engine that you had a couple of years ago? That was the one you were going to run at the Knoxville Nationals and just ran it once or twice? Is that right?

Don Ott: Yeah, we ran that thing I think eight races... It’s sitting in my shop collecting dust right now...lol. But it looks good...I show it to everyone that comes in there..lol.

John Katich: Ever going to run again with it?

Don Ott: Nah, It really didn’t perform the way I wanted it to perform. I got my engine running better with a standard block now. But it drew a lot of attention... It really helped my business, that was the best money I ever spent.

John Katich: Now did that dyno more than your typical engine or was it just a matter of hooking the car up with that much horsepower?

Don Ott: At the time that was what I called my rev engine. That was the first one that I built. And it had a lot of tricks... the block was kind of just a decoy of some of the other tricks that were in it. And it ran really well, but since then we have perfected it in a standard block and it’s actually faster now than what it was in that billet block.

John Katich: What do you charge for the lease of one of your top engines, for like a World of Outlaws weekend or a special event in Central Pennsylvania?

Don Ott: $1500 a night is what I charge, and that’s one of those rev type engines.. That’s the best one that I know how to build.

That's another reason I have to laugh at DIRT. Don claimed that he could produce the block cheaper than a cast block and it would last longer. So what's the next logical step? Let's outlaw it....

Not a snowballs chance in hell of producing a billet block cheaper than a cast version. The billet block in question supposedly cost twice as much, to the tune of about $10,000 when it was all said and done. I heard the only reason he even approached the idea of needing a billet block in the first place was because he didn't think a cast block would hold up to the horsepower numbers he was hoping to get out of his "rev" motor combination. Brodix and Donovan blocks ended up being able to withstand the abuse however. Don Ott is definitely one savvy businessman however...lol. The publicity he is getting from his auction buy may even surpass that of the billet block...lol.

The real Kool aid drinkers were the boys of the NSL/NST. They followed Kinser and he left them high and dry. Sorry boys. Hawker try buying some tickets and going to some WoO races. If not, you have nothing to bitch about. The 360's are doing just fine.

For 2006 I saw WoO, NST, ASCS, USAC, WOW, F1, the Chili Bowl and quite a few "Local/Open" races. Does that give me bitching rights?

The people that SHOULD be bitching are the suckers that bought DIRT stock at $6.30 a share being that it dropped 34% today to $1.62!

now that Kinser and Lasoski are back...i have a buy alert set for 30 CENTS...one penny per lap. at that point the value may equal the price.

i would encourage the blind faithful to join in and purchase this fantastic value soon because it appears that the bulk shareholders are reading this message board and are now engaged in fearful trading due to the dismal qaulity your supportive posts. lip service will not be not enough to keep the company afloat!
