We are looking to build up our "past" results section for both the CRA and SCRA Sprint Cars. Any help is appreciated and can be emailed to us at [email protected].

In the past, we have purchased old programs and reference books. Some results have been sent to us. For history purposes- the more the better!!!! There is a whole generation that never went to Ascot, or saw the CRA Sprints in action

However, some of the results are incomplete. For example, here are some results from a CRA Sprint show, from Yuma, AZ on March 7, 1992.

NOTES:
A rainout which turned into a day show, with rodeo like results, greeted the fans at Yuma. The rough track made for some entertaining rides by all drivers as they tried to harness their four wheel mounts around the 3/8 mile sun blistered track.

Lealand outlasted the track and the competition as he found his groove wherever the #91 car led him.

The Bromme Sprinter, driven by Billy Boat, made a valiant attempt to pass the eventual winner, but caught the wall in turn three late in the race, and flew softly over it to land on his cage. Billy was unhurt, but put on a whale of a show up until then.

Mike Kirby in the Danny Pivovaroff #59 made second place his home with a good drive.

Cary Faas went thru the pack at least twice, finally finishing sixth. (CRA Yearbook).

For the above race, I have a little more information on it... This race was actually televised on Prime Ticket very late at night, and my dad taped it for me to watch. It was hosted by Larry Nuber and a young driver on the rise, Jeff Gordon. The track had received days of rain, so the surface was terrible. Very large ruts throughout the middle of the track. In Heat 4, Don Tucker flipped hard down the front straight. He was put in the ambulance, but was all right. In the feature, the full results were as follows. 1. Lealand Mcspadden (8th) 2. Mike Kirby (5th) 3. Ron Shuman (10th) 4. Verne Sweeney (1st) 5. Brad Noffsinger (14th) 6. Cary Faas (20th) 7. Bobby Michnowicz (11th) 8. Steve Ostling (4th) 9. Rip Williams (12th) 10. Gary W. Howard (19th) 11. Mike English (9th) 12. Ricky Johnson (16th) 13. Harlan Willis (2nd) 14. Dennis Rodriguez (13th) 15. Sid Blandford (17th) 16. Billy Boat (3rd) 17. Ron Wolf (15th) 18. Richard Griffin (6th) 19. Jack Hewitt (7th) 20. Kim Craft (18th) Lap Leaders were Verne Sweeney Lap 1... Steve Ostling Laps 2-16... Verne Sweeney Laps 17-21... Lealand Mcspadden Laps 22-30 On Lap 8 of the Main, Jack Hewitt made contact with Richard Griffin on the Front Straight and flipped. Also involved were Ron Shuman and Brad Noffsinger. Griffin and Hewitt dropped out, while Shuman and Noffsinger restarted at the back. Shuman ended up taking third from Sweeney coming to the checkered flag. Boat was the only one to challenge Mcspadden, but as mentioned, flipped in turn three over the wall while running on and above the cushion. Hope this helps... will try to find more information about other races when I can!

Here is another little known fact about the race. During the red flag in the main event, Mike Kirby pulled into the work area with a hole in his radiator. We took the bubble gum that his wife, Becky, was chewing, shoved it in the hole, added some water and Mike drove the wheels off it and brought home a second place.

Oh man, I remember that race. My floor pan got shoved all the way up, and I had no brakes. I also remember not being able to remove my hands from the steering wheel from holding on for dear life, and almost getting upside down every lap. Anyways, I am sitting in a Hotel here in Tuscon AZ. getting ready to race tomorrow at a track I have never seen, talk about last minute descion, I just coulden't wait until Chili Bowl. Hope everyone has a great holiday.

I couldn't find a room in Yuma so I stayed over night in El Centro. It seems that their was a ladies professional bowling tournament going on and the San Diego Padres spring training camp to use up the motel rooms locally. The rain came down just as Steve Ostling took the flag for time trials. It was a pretty steep hill to get out of the pits and it was so slick that a few teams opted to just leave the trailers in the pits over night. I still have my program and a copy of the video. The tracks at the stadium off road races are smoother than what they raced on that day.
