Like many East Coast fans, I got to Ascot a few times. Then, I only saw SCRA/CRA on their Eastern swings, until recently, when I've been at 3 of the last 4 Nationals at Perris.
This year, I was suitably impressed by young Mike Spencer. But, don't I remember a Mike Spencer from the Ascot days? Or, was it another Spencer? Or, is my memory fading?

Mike Spencer Sr., the current racer's Dad, was 1976 CRA co-Rookie of the Year along with Buster Venard.

Thanks. It's good to know that the old memory is still ticking. OTOH, maybe it's that bit of more-or-less useless knowledge that is taking up the brain cells that could be remembering where are my car keys. :)

I'm justwondering, who would have thought back about 25 years ago when Spencer Sr. was driving the Andy Gump (early Bromme built) car that his son would someday be driving a car, considered by many to be the odds on favorite for a championship, wrenched by Bromme. While last year the 50 and 38 car were favorites right out of the gate, I'm justwondering if the series is going to have a much wider band of drivers with a shot at the tittle this year. Certainly with the Demon gone and Cory cutting back, the field is wide open for Spencer, but Gaunt in the 94 car, Danny, Rip etc. are all going to be in the hunt. There were a lot of predictions last year that came true in the "first win" catagory, I'm justwondering if this is going to be another of those years for guys like RJ Johnson and the rest of the newer group of young drivers.

Spencer still has one of the old Bromme cars down @ Spenco. Hopefully it'll get restored one day, it's a beauty.
I don't know that Cory's cutting back at all, he'll still have top notch equipment and first class mechanics. The 50 car will be tough to beat and I don't see Jones' momentum slowing down much either.
Anyone know if Sammy Davis Jr is getting some stuff together to run out here this year?
