I was still too young to drive to Ascot to see Bubby, Oskie, Dean, Shuman and others race but reading NSSN always kept me informed. I was a Bubby Jones fan. When CRA came to South Bay Park Speedway (or Speedway 117) I made a point to see and congratulate Bubby no matter how he did that evening. Later, it was the beginning of the second season for Perris Auto Speedway for the first time they offered season tickets for all SCRA races to which I jumped on that opportunity and when I got a call from the main office that my tickets are available that I can either have them mailed or get them in person I had a vacation scheduled for some fishing in the Sierras and I told them I would stop by as it was on the way north. When I arrived at the PAS office I met Bubby and we must have talked for 30 minutes about...fishing. As we said our good byes he handed me a cool looking sprint car hat pin which I still have today. During the early years at the PAS while Ol Bub was there if we see each other and he say, "How's fishing?". R.I.P. Norman.
