Hi everyone, need some advice (specifically from those of you who live in or have visited PA).

I'm traveling to Reston, VA for work next week and staying over the weekend. My current plan is to visit Williams Grove on Friday night, and Lincoln on Saturday night. I'd love to go to both Lincoln and Port (as I've already been to WG in the early 2000's when I was around 12-13) but unfortunately they're both on Saturday night and Lincoln is considerably closer to Reston than Port is. Is this a good plan, or should I go to Port and eat the extra drive? Keep in mind, I've only been to WG, never been to either Lincoln or Port.

Also, what are some suggestions for food to get at the tracks? What is the best place to go to get some driver shirts (girlfriend demands I bring her home a minimum of 2 new shirts LOL)? I'll be getting a pit pass both nights and trying to get there early if possible. Any other must do items that I should check out while I'm at the tracks?

Looking forward to a good weekend of racing, and thanks for your suggestions!

Thomas

Both Port and Lincoln are great.  If you like Late Models also, I would say Port is worth the drive.  At Williams Grove the drivers sell their shirts along the infield fence by the pits.  At Lincoln and Port they sell them behind the Grandstands.  Enjoy your trip!

My recommendation would be if you want to go see great sprint car racing at a weel prepared track the definately Lincoln.  If you want to see sprint cars at half throttle in a dust bowl then Port would be the place.  T-Shirts I would get from Lincoln would be Monteith and Rahmers, at the Port would be Logan and Mike Wagners.  Enjoy!!

You can't go wrong going to either track on Saturday. Port Royal has a "fairgrounds" feel while Lincoln usually produces close racing because the track is smaller. There isn't a bad seat in the house at either track. As far as food, Port's food stands feature typical track food like burgers, hot dogs, etc. The food is fairly good, at resonable prices. An alternative might be to stop @ OIP (about a mile from the track) if you like pizza or a sub. At Lincoln, a must is to get a beef sandwich from the Sensenig's mobile stand behind the main grandstand toward turn 4. If you like french fries, you need to try the world famous Bricker's French Fry stand.(they are a huge supporter of sprint car racing in Central Pa.)......enjoy your trip.

There is a difference between the two. Stawser does not go and bitches and Wingedthunder goes every week and bitches. I am not sure which makes less sense.

Yes I do go every week.  I will also attend all of the speedweek shows as well.  So far, Port is 0 for 1 this week.  The other tracks have put them to shame!!!!

You will get 500 responses from Port and Lincoln fans/haters who will say their favorite track is better but here is the gods honest truth. I live 15 minutes from Lincoln, and 2 hours from Port Royal. I go to both tracks roughly the exact same amount of times each year. If distance isn't a factor I go to whichever track has the best race on the schedule because the racing at both tracks is always great, just in different ways. You literally can't go wrong. If distance is a serious factor then go to Lincoln, you will see a good race. If distance isn't a factor, flip a coin because you will see a good race at either one.

Cause you read HH?

I like Port & Lincoln both, Lincoln probably more competitive cause its shorter.

During the day, EMMR is about halfway between WG & Lincoln, don't miss it. If you wanna get some exercise during the day, Lake Gifford Pinchot is also about halfway, nice place for a swim. Back roads can be tricky, I've driven them plenty of times & still get confused (but i've been guessing right lately! ;) )

Stick with your plan

Rev got it. Take Saturday afternoon and go to the museum.  You won't be disappointed.  As for which track ? Reach in your pocket and, pull out a coin to flip. Both will give you what you want.  Tee shirts. I don't belive not one person mentioned the 69k team. What they have done you may never see again. Get a shirt, DD has had a good year so far also. Because of the reasons about the 69k team, I think I would go where they may be

Please take this advice first, and I’m dead serious. Do NOT, and I repeat, do NOT read any posts from the Winged NutJob or D Strawser, sorry, B Strawser.  But take the other suggestions. PA would gladly trade those two to Ohio or Virginia for a coke and a candy bar. The two most annoying, pathetic, human beings I’ve had the privilege of never meeting.

Both tracks are great. Any true fan knows that and any real fan never compares or bashes the other.

Super Late Models are at Port Royal along with the 410 sprint cars.

Thanks for the response!

Fighting about Port or Lincoln?! That would never happen on this board full of learned scholars! LOL

Anyway, distance doesn’t really matter but Lincoln is a little closer. Both are weekly shows only, so no special reason to go to one or the other. I’ll probadly go to Lincoln this time unless I hear there will be a better field at Port.

Thanks again for the level headed response! Both tracks are amazing, and I’ll be sure to visit the other ASAP.

I should have known the storm I was starting!

Thanks for the reply, will definitely check out EMMR if I have the time!

I was thinking the same, follow 69K. This year will be my 26th Nationals (turned 28 in April) so I’ve seen Lance race plenty (461 was the best, or Hamilton 77) but not this iteration of Lance. He’s on a different level right now and I’d love to see him. Thanks for the reply!

Don’t worry, I’ve been around here long enough to recognize the dinguses! ;)

Looking forward to some posse action no matter where I go!

One of my favorite memories is of a trip we took to Gettysburg when I was younger. Grandpa called and said WoO were at Williams Grove, so I cried to my parents (who aren’t nearly the sprint car fans I am) until they agreed to take my brother and I. Crowd went absolutely bonkers when Kreitz passed Kinser with <5 laps left to win. Have loved the posse ever since!

Thanks for your reply

Lincoln is way closer. I live in Frederick MD and Lincoln is just a hair over an hour for me to get to. Port Royal is an honest 2 1/2 hours.  So if you have to get back to Reston/Dulles for your flight back bear that in mind.

Personally because of the drive I only make it to port once or twice a year, so my vote is Lincoln. As for places to eat I’ll echo that sensing’s Behind the turn 4 stands is awesome. Pit beef sandwich is absolutely awesome along with Brickner’s cheese fries.

As for driver‘s gear you have a mix of both 410 and 358 drivers behind the front stretch stands.
