I haven't been watching the points except for the last couple years and think I know for the most part Schatz gets up front and slowly increases the margin. Nice to see it this close at this point. When was the last time it looked like it could be any one of 4 or 5 win the thing at this point of the season? ( 2 months in)
Is Schatz off his game or are all the others improving more than Donny is?

Schatz is definitely off, he’s had good starting spots and doesn’t have the wins he normally does at this point. Pittman is better than he’s been in years,’the rest id say are pretty much on point with other years.

Off a little than what he has done recently but, when he first started winning titles he would start slow then when the summer started he won probably 4 out of every 5 races it seemed. It's nice to see a little parity but I wouldn't write him off. Whether Ricky Warner is his crew chief or not

Not uncommon for Donny to be a slow starter. He's usually had a tough time with the CA swing over the years. I do think though that there are a few drivers learning the difference between winning in the early laps and winning in the later laps. That's something Donny has known how to do for quite some time. If those guys that had a tendency of screwing up in the later stages can keep it together it may be tougher for Donny to close the Feature wins from behind. He's done that a lot! That could be a major factor in keeping the points race close. Will be interesting to see. (repeated from duplicate post)

It's the same story every year. Schatz starts off slow then is unbeatable by the time the weather gets hot. Didn't I hear recently that his dad is now terminally ill? If that's the case then I could see where his focus isn't where it would normally be and anyone can understand that.

So Donny hasnt been flashy or up top with the checkers many times this year but slowly and consistently worked his way into 1st in the points with a gap growing between him and 2nd.
Almost under the radar.
His recent decision to slide off corner 4 instead of fight it and twist it up turned out to be a valuable 2nd place.

I would say Donny is off just a bit, but not too far off. Lets face it, (without looking at the stats) i'm pretty sure he only finished outside the top 10 once maybe twice this year. Without a doubt the most consistent car on the tour. Sweet and Gravel are right there though. IMO I think it'll come down to the wire with those 3.

Outside of Lincoln, he’s been a top 3 car the last few weeks. Once they start consistently timing well I’m sure we’ll see the summer of Schatz like we always do.
