CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS AT BARONA ON SATURDAY!

(Torrance, CA, October 15) The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will return to the Barona Speedway for the final time in 2018 this Saturday night, October 20th.  Gates will open at noon with racing at 5:00.

The CLS returned to Barona two times earlier this year after a decade away from the track.  The first appearance on May 19th for the Jim Squire Memorial was arguably the best race of 2018 for the club.  Camarillo’s Cody Nigh picked up his first-ever CLS win at that event.  The CLS returned to the San Diego County clay oval on August 25th and five-time series champion Bobby Michnowicz captured the win on that night.

Jarrett Kramer of Spring Valley continues to lead the championship standings heading into the Barona race.  The 36-year-old has only posted two wins this year, but he holds a commanding 210-point lead over Nigh.  Two-time series champion Brent Sexton of Lakeside stands third in the ranks with Michnowicz fourth and Gardena’s Dominic Del Monte fifth.

Through the first 15 races of the season, Lakewood’s Aiden Lange leads the series with four wins.  Michnowicz has three.  Point leader Kramer and Kingsburg’s Doug Nunes have two wins apiece.  Nigh, Bruce Douglass of Ventura, Washington’s Seth Hespe and San Diego’s A.J. Bender have one win each.

For fans wishing to attend Saturday’s race, the Barona Speedway is located at 1754 Wildcat Road in Lakeside.  The office phone number is (619) 749-8115 and the track website is www.baronaspeedway.com.

The CLS teams will have little time to rest after Saturday’s race as they will be at the Ventura Raceway on October 27.
