That was one of the most dominant nights for locals I've ever witnessed. Yet none of the usual fandom style drooling all over the locals that occurs from Gibson when in PA. Interesting. Yes, Sweet is an outlaw so credit goes to him for his win but look at qualifying, heats, dash and the A main results. Simply an awesome performance from the CA guys.
Cheers!

Yea that sometimes happens at Chico. Although I can remember the Outlaws being shut out of 7 of the top 8 spots before.

There's plenty of gushing from the PA announcers whenever their locals do well, Gibson stays pretty balanced either way but gets his in when the Outlaws do well.......but you're right......last night didn't end with a lot of praise and "looky there". Pretty refreshing to see.

Congratulations to the Cali guys, they kicked ass
I can't read anybody's mind, but Gravel gave Shuchart a Royal Screwing, IMHO
Part of Gibson & Pa. announcers' job is to promote the sport. Since Posse vs. Outlaws is such a big deal to the fans, why not hype it up?

Yep< Gravel stuck Logan pretty hard.......and a piss poor job of driving on his part to hit him the way he did. Gravel sometimes tends to way over drive and when he does that he loses control.....

After watching I can see why they do NOT paint the top wings!! Looks like it could be a crash fest at times?? Don't get me wrong the racing was good but Bristol like if you know what i mean. If you haven't been to this track as a driver before it could eat you for lunch in a hurry, hence why i can see racing it on a weekly basis is an advantage over other tracks....(my opinion). P.S. Gravel has been AWESOME since his perfect night at Knoxville.LOL

You miss the whole point here. It's his job to hype the rivalry in California as well. I don't mind him hyping their locals just be consistent in other places where the outlaws get their asses kicked as well.
Cheers!

There is a big difference between official series media and my stupid ass bragging, I'd suspect you know the difference between the two. I was just pumped for the locals. I wouldn't read too much into it.
Cheers!

Night 2.......same story! Cali boys kicked there ass! Can't wait for Wednesday going to be a hell of a show IMO!
Where's my beer or scotch on the rocks? God-damn it! 40
plus years of dirt track racing in these old veins might
get me condemned by the EPA.

The Chico regulars are a very competitive bunch that, I think, can hold their own with any sprint car drivers in the country. Not running 410s on Friday nights this year just makes it the more impressive. We're regulars there in one of the fendered classes and run all over the west and Silver Dollar is still one of the most consistent and raciest places around.

Based on how the CA tracks appear to prep, it almost looks like trying to race on a freshly plowed field. The CA guys might be used to driving cars that are behaving like a rodeo bull, but the rest of the country runs smoother surfaces than CA. And too, the CA race tracks do seem to promote races that become a crash fest quite a bit of the time. That roughness must be great training because the CA guys seem to excell on the smooth tracks when they travel, but the non CA drivers sure have a hard time adjusting to the rough conditions out there.

Some stats from two nights at the Gold Cup: Of the top ten finishing cars each night, only four were non-Californians, total. That's 16 out of twenty finishers! Counting Sweet as an outlaw, even tho SDS is his second home track, only 6 of 20 were outlaws. Can any other state or track claim to have whooped the outlaws so bad?
Track prep was great. They reworked it several times each night so it wouldn't take rubber and also to knock down the curb which builds up around the high side of the corners. The curb makes it tricky to navigate around the top as you can see in the video of the heat where Abreu is battling Wheatley for second. It all made for fantastic racing all four nights.
Wrecks? A few, but in the features the first flags came out deep into the lap count, which means that there was long green flag stretches each night.

Not consecutive nights, but Williams Grove regulars had 9 of top 10 vs WoO on May 14, 2009 and 8 of top 10 on Oct 4, 2013. Schatz was only outlaw in top 10 both races. He finished 5th in both.Only other non Posse was Dale Blaney with a P10. Several other races at both Grove and Lincoln with posse having 7 of top 10.
Congrats to Cali guys. Always nice to see locals do well against WoO.

I remember being on top of a trailer with Wolfgang somewhere in Michigan and the Outlaws we're talking about cancelling the next night because the track was to rough, he said "I sure hope they don't, I love it like this" and right there is the difference between the good old days and today!

I get your point but I also don't get it. You're saying that "back in the day" they discussed cancelling a race bc of a cowboy up rough track and one driver (a badass HOFer) said I hope not and you're transferring that to mean that "the good old days" were somehow better than now. I've seen instances where a number of current drivers, even young ones like Little Haud, comment they love cowboy up rough tracks. So each time period has drivers that appreciate a challenge and like rough tracks. I'm getting older too and can appreciate different "time periods" in my life but I'm not from the school of thought that referencing the "good old days" often (sometimes with certain subjects yes, but not in this case) makes sense. There are badass drivers today just like there were in the good old days.
