Watching the time trials for Saturday night of the King's Royal are a bit... interesting to say the least. I know the format usually provides for a good show, but after watching that, it solidifies to me how much better the Nationals format is.

I prefer the Nationals format as well, but this is a nice little quirky format. Makes the event unique.

I would love this format with a blind inversion after qualifying. I hate formats that incentivize not going as fast as possible.

Hmmm. Good point. Qualify everyone and then pull a random pill to decide how many you invert in the heat. Would you throw a 0 pill in there? Or just 2, 4, 6, and maybe even a 8?

Blind draw is a really good idea, I’ve always hated the Royal format because it encourages sandbagging.

I'd weight it like the NBA lottery but have 100 pills 0-8. Put in 20 4's and 5's, 15 3's and 6's, 10 2's and 7's, 5 8's and 0's.

Gives an weighted distribution throughout the field. 40% chance 4 or 5, 30% chance 3 or 6, 20% chance 2 or 7, 10% chance 0 or 8.

Sounds pretty solid. I'm on board.

Consider it done. I'll be on the phone with Smoke the first thing in the AM.

Schatz starting 4th tonight. I'd be highly surprised if he doesn't threepeat.

Eldora does something along those lines for their big late model weekends.  They spin a wheel for invert of either 0, 2,4 or 6. It is weighted more likely to be 6 but isn’t always.  They do it after prelim nights are done to set the heat lineups.
