I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a whole lot about sprint cars. Being from West Virginia, we don't get to see them much except for the rare occurences at Ohio Valley Speedway. I did go to Mansfield Speedway last year and saw a pretty good spring race. Haudenshild put on a show. I'm thinking of booking a hotel to the World Championships in late April paying $100,000 to win. How many cars will an event like this draw? I believe the outlaws are in Texas that weekend. You would think a lot of the ASCOC guys would be there. Any information on this race for a sprint car noob. Drivers, car counts, etc...

Hey Pennsboro,

I honestly think this race is going to get a lot of support. With the Outlaws being out of town I would bet the count will improve honestly. You will see several of the PA Posse guys, most of the Western PA guys, just about all of the Ohio/IN/IL/WI/MI area guys and many of the travellers from other areas of the country (Brian Brown, Kerry Madsen, etc.). If I had to guess on a car count I would say 80 but I could be off by 20 in either direction easy enough. This is just my opinion of course and isn't based in fact. I'm sure some others will have differing views.

I am starting to think you will see more like 100 cars for this event. 100k is by far the 2nd highest paying show although the purse does drop off quick.

If you need a hotel I would book more towards columbus as I bet all the local hotels are already sold out

As far as hotel look into the Sleep Inn and Suites in Galion, OH. (link: https://www.choicehotels.com/ohio/galion/sleep-inn-hotels/oh653 ) I live right down the road from it, it's right next to Route 30 and 20 minutes from the track. Just checked availability and it has many rooms open for that weekend as it's a fairly new hotel and not many people know it exists.

As far as the car count, over on our local sprint car board most people are guessing in the 60's but I'm expecting high 60's low 70's personally. The Wayne County cars support the track pretty well, and I imagine some of the FAST Fremont/Attica area guys will come down to the event as well. Keep in mind Caleb Armstrong, Adam Kekich, and Jimmy Seger all also are locked into the feature and will be there. PA drivers such as Lance Dewease, Zearfoss, Dietrich among others have mentioned coming and I'm sure it will draw a very strong field of cars from top to bottom. I fully expect the majority of the All Stars to be there as well.

Follow @TheSCWC on twitter they provide some info occasionally as well.

Does anyone know if they will be releasing an entry list for this event? Would be quite awesome to see what guys and gals have pre entered.

Reading on their website seems like the place is either new or new ownership. What is the quick version of its history?

Of the track? I believe that it opened in the 1950's, but I could be wrong about that. I've been attending races there since 1976 when I was a child. It was dirt until the mid 90's, and mostly ran late models/stocks/street stocks during that time with an occasional Sprint car race thrown in here and there. While it was paved they ended up hosting some Nascar truck races for a few years. Then it sat dormant for a few years.

A local business owner bought the track in a tax auction a couple of years ago, and re-opened it. The initial plan seemed to appear that they were going to keep it paved, but a new promoter stepped in and they removed the surface and went back to dirt.

On a side note, I currently live in galion, Ohio, and work at a company across the road from the new hotel that was mentioned in an earlier post. I'd also recommend the place as a great spot to stay at for the race.

It was dirt for a long time catering to weekly racing which usually consisted of sprints, late models and street stocks.  Through the early 90's most of the Ohio sanctioned 360 groups ran a lot of races there until it closed.  Then like Kingpin said, someone threw a lot of money into the place and restructured the facilities and it became a special event pavement track hosting bigger races such as Nascar sanction events.  There wasn't much interest in pavement racing and the pavement track also closed its doors.  2 winters ago Cody Sommer (who also promotes the St' louis indoor late model deal) took it over, ripped up the pavement and turned the nice facility into a dirt track again.  They are trying to put on big select shows.

I could see the car count climbing higher just based on the fact that it's a .44 semi-banked track, and maybe engines won't factor in as much as at Eldora.

I'm curious if this the highest paying race ever for a track less than a half mile?

I imagine guys like Tim Schaffer, Haudenschild will be there, I know they're not PA posse. Who are some of the PA Posse guys who should be there?

Only dirt track I've ever been to where I took an elevator up to my seat! Great facility.

Also, if you are fan of the movie Shawshank Redemption, the prison (former) where they filmed that is just south of the track - neat place to visit.

I hope this event is a success. They have a neat concept for their big late model race later in the year.

I mentioned above Lance Dewease, Zearfoss, Seger. Other guys who came last time were Mike Wagner, Mark Smith, Coleman Gulick (NY), Dylan Cisney. and logan Wagner. Some other outsiders were Scotty Thiel (2nd in points IRA), Joe Trenca, Justin Peck, Hunter Schuerenberg.

So this track is only histing one or 2 events each year at this time?

Someone is subsidising the place. Thanks to them.

Thanks for the Shawshank explanation.   I was wondering what the connection was based on the prior references in this thread.

Sorry, must have missed your post somehow. From everything I have been reading, DeWease is a pretty good shoe out of PA. Has a pretty good list of accomplishments and big races that he has won. In late models you don't usually see a regional racer win that many big races like he has.

Cody Sommer has a three year lease to buy option with Milliron (the owner of the property). They haven't announced their schedule yet, but have seen via the BOSS sprints that the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals featuring FAST410s, FAST305s, and BOSS Nonwings on August 10-11 again this year. They also have the LucasOil Late Models back on July 1st although that also has not been updated onto the site yet. So four that are confirmed dates with however many more he'll announce.

April 27-28th SCWC 410s

July 1st Lucas Oil LM supports TBA

Aug 10-11th Great Lake Dirt Nats FAST410s,FAST305s,BOSSNonwing)

Aug 24-25th Dirt Million Lucas Oil LM

I honestly think the WoO being in Texas this weekend increases the car count. More locals, PA, Midwest, and CA teams think they'll have a better shot to win... Im guessing there's 70-80 entires for this race.

A normal ASCoC show @ Attica/Wayne Co. draws 40 entries easy. For $100k-to-win and respectable payout throughout the field theres no reason they shouldnt have at least 75 cars.
