IT IS NOW A RULE THAT ALL IMCA RACE CARS...SPRINTS ..MODIFIEDS..STOCK CARS ..LATE MODELS...ECT..MUST HAVE A MINUIM OF THREE 1/4 INCH BOLTS HOLDING MUDCOVERS IN PLACE..DO NOT TURN UP TO RACE WITHOUT THEM..THIS IS A INSURANCE COMPANY REQUIREMENT..NOT A PROMOTER REQUIREMENT..I WILL NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE THIS IN EVERY DIVISION OF RACING..AND THE 5 OR 6 HOLE ZUSE MUDCOVER IS NOT ACCEPTABLE..

Where is the offical word on this ruling?  I do not see it updated on the IMCA site as of yet.  Just do not want to buy 5 dzus beadlock if need to then buy the bolts.

As someone in the sprint car and other dirt track sales industry myself, It was brought to my attention a couple weeks ago. How I heard it then was, you could still run the 5 or 6 dzus mud covers, But there is some insurance restrictions or something like that, not 100% sure. I'm sure this will prompt IMCA and their tracks to mandate the bolt on covers. I guess what happened was there was a couple accidents where fans got hurt last year, not necessarily in just sprint car events, but others as well, that prompted the change. This rule is for IMCA across the board, not just the sprint cars. Bottom line, every wheel I have sold since,  I have also sold the $30 bolt kit as well. If you do buy the 6 hole setup like weld has, you only need to outfit 3 alternating holes with the bolts, and it works the same as a 3 hole cover. Only issue is with Sanders wheels, that come with the 5 bolt setup, just outfit all 5 holes with the bolts and you are good to go!

I dont know if I am just blind or what, but I can not find any mention of this new rule in the racesaver rules, or any other rules for that matter. Racesaver rules on the website still list as 2017 rules. Maybe I am missing it, but I have looked through them twice today. All it says is Wheel covers or mud plugs must be securely fastened. Well, My mud covers are securely fastened with dzus buttons as well but I know what to look as far as issues go, and can fix it. Needs to be more specific unless it just hasn't been changed yet.

If they are not there yet, they need to be soon. Like I said, I ahve already sold plenty of wheels to sprint car guys. I know the rule is there, so I always advise of it, but for the people that don't it needs to be out.

It was announced at the PA Sprint Series banquet like 3 weeks ago, so it's been out for long enough to make the rounds.

we race northeast style dirt modifieds in NJ and Pa.

safety rules in NJ fall under the jurisdiction of the NJ State police.. they have a trooper at every event.

any serious injury is investigated by the state police

we have had this rule for several years because it became a mandate by the state of NJ after several of the Dzus fastened covers came off during crashes.  one thing no one wants to see is one of those come off and fly up into the stands

either bolt on or foam inserts only

a couple of weeks ago at the Atlantic city indoor TQ midget race a driver was critically injured in a crash  even with the already mandated hans device there was a serious head-neck injury

they have already issued a rule that a full containment headrest will now be mandatory on all open wheel racecars
