Smith Claims Fourth NCRA Late Model Victory at 81 Speedway!

Park City, Kansas – August 18, 2017 - Current series point leader Delbert Smith withstood late race challenges by Josh Leonard to claim his fourth National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products late model feature victory of the season Friday night at 81 Speedway in Park City.

Josh Leonard and Dusty Leonard started on the front row for the twenty-lap feature with J. Leonard taking the lead as the green flag fell. Smith, who started third, jumped into the runner-up position and on lap three would drive underneath J. Leonard to take the lead coming out of turn two.

Lap four saw the first caution of the feature wave when Jeremy Bishop spun in turn two.

On the restart, D. Leonard got a strong run underneath Smith to take the lead coming out of turn four to take the lead and on lap five. The second caution flag would wave on lap later when Loren Dauer spun in turns three and four. While under caution, D. Leonard would slow to a stop at the bottom of turn three with mechanical gremlins and would retire pit side, putting Smith back up front on the restart.

Once race action went green, Smith kept out front the remaining distance and would go on to claim the victory. J. Leonard, in his first-ever appearance at 81 Speedway, would go on to finish second while fifth-starting Chris Kratzer came home third. Thirteenth starting Jimmy Segraves worked his way through the field to finish an impressive fourth while Kip Hughes rounded out the top five. Former series modified division champion Tyler Davis drove the Kratzer backup car to a sixth- place finish from his ninth starting position while defending tour rookie of the year Adam Popp, Duston Bolster, Dan Smith and Dauer rounded out the top ten.

The tour will load up and now head to Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta to close out the double-header weekend.
