Yeah and if they raced 10 times there would be a different winner every night. Why are grown men arguing about what region has the best Sprint drivers? How can a zip code determine whether someone is good or not? Jason Johnson comes from the hot bed of Sprintcar racing in Louisiana Lol. You guys like to compare drivers like it somehow has somthing to do with you. Duh, if I live near da best drivers that makes me cool and a better fan than you. Great job guys, you are all super fans for your regions, be proud and make an ass out of yourself and let everyone know by putting down the other regions!

Ah, lighten up..... Grown men argue about pointless sports all the time, & some get BIG $$$ to do it on TV. Its all in fun
Beats the hell out of arguing politics!

My very first sprint car race was 7 yrs. ago at lil Clinton County Raceway in Podunk, Pa. It was some minor league upstate NY sanction (Patriots? David Gravel was there!) About a 20 mile drive to nearest gas station (going southeast, I hope there was a station in whatever town it was) When I got to station, noticed all the cars & semis were covered with that red clay dust just like me. So I had a bunch of interesting conversations with sprint car fans. I told one guy I was disappointed that fans were so mellow, didn't seem to care who won. So he tells me about Wiliams Grove & The Posse vs. Outlaws. My SECOND sprint car race was National Open the year Sammy won (with DeWease hot on his trail) Flew all the way from Denver, messed up a budding relationship with an adorable Pa. lady by going to races instead of dancing... it was worth it! Rooting for your team is what makes it exciting...
If you look at it rationally, a bunch of guys risk their lives & spend big $$ & go in circles & end up where they started.... pointless unless you care who wins. Its all for fun, right?
By the way, I'm still good friends with aforementioned Pa. beauty.... just no more "you know what"...... ;)

Previous to Clinton County experience, 40+ years earlier in the early 1960s I use to go to dirt track Eatside Speedway in Waynesboro, Va., the old hotrod jalopies & modified coupes. Smokey Stover won 22 out of 24 races in 1962, starting from the back! Full invert based on points.
The entire crowd was divided "pro-Smokey" vs "anti-Smokey" It was INTENSE! "Ah reckon" lots of fans were liquored up on that good ole moonshine.... dry county (do they still exist?)
Its the fans emotions that make it exciting

Freddie and Lance each have one top ten with 8th being the best in ALL the years than ran the Nationals, and not counting Greg from Memphis they are your two best locals over the years, hardly stout.....they made the A-Main less than half the time also....

You telling me to lighten up may be the funniest thing I've ever read on here. The men arguing on TV actually know what they are talking about, they don't argue that only good players come from certain zip codes. This " my area is better than your area" is played out. But hey I don't want to pee in your cherios, I personally believe the best drivers have Alaska zip codes! You want to age about it Lol

Can't help "age"ing, but I'm definitely not "ragin'"... or did you mean to say "argue"?
Guess what, most of us don't take it seriously (I hope!) ;)
Why do people root for their home football team? Tribal instincts?

And this retard proves my point, your right MSPN the Nationals are the only yardstick for measuring driver talent, Fred, Lance, and the rest of the Posse suck, now if Rahmer and Lance lived in Iowa they would certainly be better drivers, right? Give me a break. Posse drivers are always better in Pa, and Knoxville regulars are better at Knoxville. The Outlaws are capable of beating locals at their own game because they are used to showing up at any track and finding speed regardless of surface, condition, or length of track. I sincerely doubt Logan Schuhart would have made the A if he and his team were still in Pa racing the same 3 tracks.

Bobby Allen won it all in 1990
Keith Kauffman & DeWease have both finished 8th
Hodnett has lived & raced in Pa. for years, one 2nd, two 5ths, two 6ths
& are you sure he was born in Memphis? I've heard people claim it was Kenya...;)

I'm from Central PA and I love our local racers. Notice I said "local racers" and not "Posse"? I'm sick of seeing some of the " fans" around here act the way they do. The constant chest thumping and grandstanding pisses me off to no end. You can cheer for your hometown boys and be happy the win without bashing drivers who aren't from here. It happens all the time and it makes us all look bad. It's really nice when a photo on a press release about Dewease winning at Williams Grove features a bunch of drunks with a painted up bed sheet proclaiming their Posse allegiance. People see that shit and then think that we're all a bunch of idiots who don't know that they race sprint cars in other states, regions and countries and some of those drivers, just like here in PA, do it pretty damn well. I'm to the point now where I love seeing the WoO spank the shit out if the Posse just to hear the silence that soon follows. I hate feeling that way but I can't help it. You're right though. Arguing over this stuff is stupid but as long as it's in good fun, I don't mind. It's when it gets too personal or too serious (like it does 99% of the time when some idiot from Pa decides to pound his chest for the Posse) that I have a problem with.

+1
Stevie Smith also ran up front in Zemco car.
Plus steel city posse was the last non-schatz to win it before Johnson.

This is getting so offensive. No wonder people are getting shot everywhere with such divisive bias based on poeple's geographical placement and origins. The more I think about it the more I realize all people really need to just love each other. You guys better hope a democrat lawyer doesn't see all these prejudices. It would be much more modern, simple and kind to put differences under the hood and stop judging people with less talent from Iowa and California. Davey Brown, Bobbi Johnson and Ricky Warner should not be on such a pedastal strictly because of obvious talent advantages stemming from being born and bred in the area Bud Grimm perfected.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

No need for anyone to get testy, regional debates are part of what makes sprint car racing so interesting.
Facts of the matter are this, had there been a $150k to win race in PA like the Nationals, the Posse would have done far better at their home track than the Knoxville regulars did. Most of this is because the PA regulars spend most of the year perfecting the "20 second lap" set up you find at the Grove. You don't see this really anywhere else and gives the locals a great advantage. That said, they still have to be good enough to beat the best in the business, so props to them. For a tutorial on PA tracks, read this from Lance that was published in May....

I think since nobody from either of your *teams* won the race, it's really a moot point.
Why aren't we discussing which area of the country has the best looking cars that didn't win the Knoxville Nationals this year? Note:Louisiana is not allowed to chime in on this for this year.

How about Keith Kauffman's three top 10s (two of which came in the Hamilton & Wintermyer cars) and he hasn't raced the Nationals since 2000? He also beat the Outlaws at Knoxville in October 1983 in the #77.
Or Jeff Shepard's 14th to 3rd driving Barry Jackson's local car? Won a Nationals prelim in the Zemco #1 the year before he got hurt and claimed it was a win for the Posse.
Or the success Stevie had in the Hamilton #77 and Zemco #1 at the Nationals? Stevie wins Knoxville in 1993 if not for rain delay and the corresponding red flag. And yes, Stevie was running with the Outlaws then, but that was PA-based team (driver & owner).
Lance & Freddie (two prelims) may have the most A-main starts (not counting Stevie), but they’re not necessarily PA's most successful at Knoxville. Now on the other hand, Lance might have had something to say about that this year. Who knows what he would have done?
And I'm not getting into the CA, IA, vs. PA debate.
Could include Kenny Weld & Doug Wolfgang too - Weikert #29.
