I do remember going to a Sunday race in Wichita in 1970. We had Suchys # 33 car & the # 333 was there being driven that night by Jerry Everhart. It was pretty neat really, the 2 cars were almost identical.

Believe the year before Leep drove the car as #999 at 81 on Sundays, with purple trim. There is a great picture of that car in the Kansas Supers page of Racing from the past. The caption says it was a Nance car, probably right as Suchys 1970 car was a Nance also.

Will be gone until Sunday, taking # 11 to Devils Bowl, Chris will be driving. Peters is taking the # 51 to run SS Fri, Sat. will install the ASCS motor & run the ASCS program. Should be big fun!!

Jim

Jim, I do remember the #333 with Everhart driving it, and I believe your right about Leep driving it as #999 at 81 SPDY, Myron drove it at OKC and Enid and it had a beautiful purple trim.

Just went through Kansas SM and found pic's of Leep & Rust in the #999 man that was 29 pages of great memories.

I saved a pic of Earnest's #61 and Bill Lewis's blue #54 at Huthinson in '67 or '68. You could tell they were home built cars, compared to some of the others there.

I remember Danny's dad Rick winning the Spring Nationals at OKC in a Blue # 62 that was built I believe by Johnny & Horace and I remember Ernest winning the same race years earlier. I was proud of Ernest because I knew he had built most of it himself.

Well I to am off to DB won't be back until Sunday, did anybody come up with the first BOD of NCRA and who 1st President was.

Where was Myron Rust from. The notation on that car had Myron's name on it. But the name didn/t ring a bell.

For years there was talk of a Walker car at Avant's shop right along with a 4 bar car(Barnett?). Man, wish I had known that one too. Blows me away to think of all the legendary cars hidden out there humbly hidden in someones pasture, fields or barn etc.

There were two cars at the Avant' s one was a Nance 100" it is restored by a K.A.R. member. The other car was the Hill & Moery Special don't know what it was, it has a Dale Parson Auto Racing sign , on the right side, also has a bolt on cage. The driver was D.E. Suggs, It had a bobed off nose and a sprint tail. It was sold to the Avant's and Johnny Stinnett drove it, it also is being restored by a K.A.R. member

If I remember correctly Ricky Hood won that USAC/NCRA race driving the 39 Rose Brothers car.

C.Ray Hall and G.W. Elkins are right. Stanley Durrett is not. Those I know. I thought C.Ray had been the President from day 1.

Without looking it up, I believe G. W. Elkins was the first president & Bud Carson vice president. Pretty sure C. Ray & Lanny were first year board members.

I'll do some research on the Hill/Morey car, not sure who built it it, but pretty sure Gilmore did some wok on it.

And yeah Rickey Hood was the man. He won the 84' & 85' USAC/NCRA races + he won a CRA sprint car race on the OKC 1/2 mile also.

More later

I believe Shane won the 85 & 86 NCRA/USAC race. In 86 he beat Rich Vogler in the #39. I think that was a little revenge after Jon Johnson failed to finish the race with a little help from, well that is a very popular story.

The Hill Moery car as the 11 and 63 are at this GREAT site http://middelnet.www6.50megs.com/photos2.htm

I haven't figured out how to upload photos from my files to the forum yet on this laptop. I can do it at home on the big computer. It must something to do with the firewall etc.

Shane didn't win in '85, we ran a close 2nd another lap or two he would have won but we were DQ'd over an hour after the race was over by USAC for having a bleeder in the wheel. In '85 USAC didn't allow bleeders but NCRA did, if you had a bleeder in your wheel you could block it off and have USAC look at it and if they said it was ok you were good to go. We ran Gilliam bleeders and they were threaded so you could run a bolt down in them to block it off which we did, then had it inspected by USAC offical who ok'd it. On about the 45th lap Shorty clipped the rail coming off turn 4 and sheared about 5-6 bead lock bolts off, the RR started losing air and when the race was over you could hear the air leaking around the ring the tire went flat setting on the frt stretch so we aired it back up and upon USAC hearing the air leak around the ring which was oviously damaged they said it was ok. We go to pits and changed the RR and gave it back to CM to put in there trailer as the tire belonged to GDYR and they wanted it back. While undergoing the rest of tech inspection Bobby Kraft started complaining that it had a bleeder in it and we should be disqualified well he through such a fit Rollie Beal Chief USAC inspector wanted to look at it. When he went over to CM trailer the tire was flat and there was no screw in bleeder so we were DQ'd, all I can say is when I pulled the tire off to change it the bolt was still in that bleeder, Shane saw it Fly saw it the old man saw it and all the guys from CM saw it but Rollie said it didn't matter it wasn't in there so we were DQ'd we even aired it up to show him the leak and he could see the damage, it just didn't make any difference, so over an hour after the race we got hammered to the tune of $4500.00 to this day I think Rollie or Bobby got that bolt. Any way this just added fuel to the fire that was already going on between us and Ewell/Nance. We did come back and win in '86 and I could not be any more proud of Shorty ramming Vogler on the Red Flag getting out and giving him his 2 cents then passing him on the 46th lap for the win now that was PRICELESS!!!!!

Jim, I believe your right, I think GW was pres. & Bud VP, I think Lanny, C. Ray, Al Verguswegen (I didn't spell this right) Hugh Finnerty Tracks were Amarillo, Devils Bowl, 81 SPDY, Lawton, Whicita Falls, Hutch, Shrevport (paved) & OKC. I don't remember if Muskogee and Enid ran in the 1st season or not, if they did woudn't Martin Bond been the promoter for Enid, Don't remember if he was on the orginial Board or not.

The #11 Hill/Morey I'm pretty sure was a Nance car I know you'll remember DE sailing it over the fence going into turn 1 at OKC, I don't know how DE was not hurt any worse then he was, I remember some idioit coming up to Hill carrying a Driveshaft that was in his windshield in the parking lot (if i remember right there were alot of pieces in the parking lot) wanting to know what Hill was going to do about his windshield, I think the just of Hill's answer can't be printed on here!!!! As you know Larry could be an exciteable guy.

USAC/NCRA '83 Copeland in Nance's car, '84&'85 Hood, '86 Shane in the Gambler.

I was thinking it was an even draw on the wins as far as NCRA/USAC. But then, Hood came from West Memphis, not the north, I think he was more like our group than he was theirs. He just happened to be driving a USAC car.

Wish I had a pic of Howerton in the Ford powered car he brought in '84. He didn't make the show, but we all knew he was there.

Hey guys! Had a great time at Devils Bowl. Put both cars on the trailer, no problems & Mike got a couple top 10 finishes for the week-end. Chris did o.k., learned about the track & goin fast. He was like a kid a Disneyland.

Hooked up breifly with JDsprint on Sat. night, fun to put a face with a name! Friday night we were pitted next to Russell Shoulders. He was running a SS. Hadn,t seen him in years, remember the first time I saw him running a 100" car was Dewey in 78'.

Then Sat. night a car # 3D pulls in next to us & lo & behold it was Rickey Hood! That was just too cool & Rickey can still mash the gas pretty good.

Found my programs from the 83', 84' & 86' Challenge races, still looking for 85'. When I get em together I'll scan the score sheets on here, you won't believe some of the names on there.

May have a picture of the car Howerton was driving, when I find it will pass it along.

More later, Jim
