Wingtree,

I have an answer I think. Can you give us some specific examples of names of Racers you are talking about?

I can give you a more complete answer at that point.

Russ

No I'm not going to take the bait on that, no need to name names, just look around and I'm sure you can see what I mean.

No denying you make a good observation Wingtree. I got that question in some form or another quite a bit the first few weeks after Racer's Workout was launched. I talked more about it today in the Online Magazine. Check it out and definitely leave lots of comments. Let me know you all are out there!

Hey Racers,

One of my colleagues recently went to a major athletic training conference in Las Vegas where auto racing fitness was discussed. I highlighted the speaker's points of value in a recent edition of the Auto Racing Fitness Magazine. If you'd like a copy of the entire PDF from Dr. Ebben's study on Racing Fitness and suggestions for maximizing it, email me at [email protected].

(Also, we had a little fun with Seattle Seahawk Wide Receiver Golden Tate after his Tweet that Racers aren't athletes during last week's ESPYs.)

Hi Russ. I wanted to get your thoughts on nutritional supplements implemented with a good workout plan. I've seen companys like Herbalife or Mannatech, which, by the way, driver Brandon Wimmer uses/endorses. I'm curious if you know about these products, if you would recommend them or any other supplements. To me, it seems it might be "easier", for lack of a better word, to do these products than going to a GNC or wherever and reading labels trying to figure out what to take for better health & energy. Your input is appreciated

When it comes to supplements, you can go way overboard quick and never really find the results you were looking for.

I would keep it as basic as possible. When I was bodybuilding and playing rugby, I had a cabinet full of expensive supplements. Nowadays, I've narrowed it down to Whey Protein Powder, a Creatine that contains dextrose, and a good multi-vitamin. Every once in a while, I'll buy Fish Oil for the heart.

And dont worry about GNC or places like that. Walmart has the same stuff for half the price. It all works the same!

My favorite site for supplements, nutrition, and fitness information is Bodybuilding.com. It has a lot of forums with regular everyday people giving their experiences. You might run across an article from a guy just like you, and steal his ideas, and really get some great results.

First let me say thanks to Brandon for covering for me with a great answer to the question. Lately with my travel schedule, I haven't been able to be on the forum as often as I'd like. Keep my email handy and ask me questions or request racing fitness resources any time at [email protected]. I am answering correspondence from Racers every day. I feel awful making you guys wait like this. I just figured out that I can request an email when there are new answers posted. So we shouldn't have the problem again.

Now to add to the discussion started by x83fanL

I firmly believe in natural supplements. We all need them because the food we eat nowadays such as fruits, veggies, meats, etc are depleted in vitamans and minerals do to our toxic atmosphere. I have my own line of racers vitamins and I believe ours are some of the best products out there (I put my name to them, they better be) Shoot me an email for more information.

Every person should be taking at least one multi balance vitamin a day. When your working out, it is always recommended that you take some for of protien drink after to help your body recover. When you do sports activities like driving a race car, it burns energy and good natural supplements restores that energy you burn and accomplishes this restoration safely. Brandon gives you a good roadmap here too. I like his ideas.

What it comes down to is, it is all about energy in, and energy out. You wouldn't put bad fuel in your race car clearly. But I'm talking all natural, not synthetic products. If its made by man it will not desolve and nourish your body as efficiently and well as natural products. Be careful when assessing natural v. synthetic. All these products that are seen so often advertised contain natural ingredients. You want to be looking for "All Natural" ingredients and you also want to be looking at the processes that were used to put the supplement into the current powder or pill form. Make sure there weren't synthetic chemicals used.

Let me add this about Mannatech for your reading and review. http://www.raysahelian.com/glyconutrients.html

Unfortunately the supplement industry tends to be confusing and even more unfortunately that is by design. I invite you to email me any time with specific products and I'll give you my best opinion. My answer will be similar to this one. All Natural, ok if it is providing useful nutrients that will further your goals.

Thank you Russ, & Brandon, for your response. I actually started taking Herbalife products for nutrition & weight loss, and in 23 days I've lost 16 pounds and my energy level is amazing. I started racing go-carts just for fun and that was kicking my butt, but with the lbs. lost, more colorful meals, and exercise, I'm handling the racing much better. I chose this product line over Mannatech simply because they've been around longer (30 years) and several testimonials. I enjoy reading your knowledge & advice Russ...keep it coming!

Joey Saldana update today in the Auto Racers Fitness Magazine

I hope you'll check out today's article in the Auto Racing Fitness Magazine. I have an update on KKR's Joey Saldana and his progress since that bad crash a couple weeks ago. Also a video featuring a rookie driver on a NASCAR sub-circuit talking about the benefits of fitness for a driver. The idea that fitness can greatly benefit results on the track is now generally accepted on the big circuits like Sprint Cup and WOO. The thing that is exciting is you are seeing the up and coming guys from the regional and local circuits grabbing hold of the benefits too.

Hosehead forum Racers,

I have a very effective low back exercise coming out this Friday that you'll want to check out in the Auto Racers Fitness Magazine. Subscription is free and it comes direct to your inbox. In the meantime, this is yesterday's article talking about a very special friend of mine named Carly. She is a little girl fighting a brave battle. I hope you'll take a second to check out her story and see if you are able to do anything to help. Also there is a little more on Kasey Kahne's racing in WOO a few weeks ago.

Hosehead Racers,

I feel I should come clean. I was way wrong about one of my personal favorite Racers. On Wendnesday in the Auto Racers Workout Magazine, I stated that I was confident Joe Saldana would be back to full strength and competing in 2012. He must have thought I said before October 12. As most of you know, he not only returned but won in his return in Hartford. What a truly amazing achievement and performance by one of the most accomplished racers currently competing. Here is Wednesday's post with my prediction http://russbohaty.com/auto-racers-workout-magazine-with-updates/ and Friday's with Joey's post-race interview ( my thanks to the Woosprint.com site for the video) http://russbohaty.com/auto-racers-workout-magazine-missed-the-bullet/

Besides revealing how wrong I can be, the first article has information on my friend Carly Q and her Progeria Benefit this coming Friday the 30th. I hope you'll read more about it and if you can help her in her battle against what is known as the premature aging disease, please do. She appreciates it so much.

Hosehead Racers,

I wanna share this very self-serving article in the Auto Racing Fitness Magazine I got from a racer up North. He took the initiative with some of my ideas and put them to work. There's two points to take from it. One, he took action. Two, he followed a plan and was loyal to it. Also there is a link if you would like to talk about Racers Workout online and make some money doing it. It's our affiliate program and I am pretty fired up about it. You'll get a free copy of the program as part of the deal.
