Sounds like a street stock race to me. Small motors, little bullring, not much speed. It sure doesn't sound like a sprint race.

The answer to that would be NEITHER, unless you count an old ambulance that is parked at the track, which i suspect has little or no medical equipment. It is my hope there are no serious accidents

Key word in that statement is "suspect", you guys really crack me up by making statements about shit you have no clue about. In order to host ASCS events they must have appropriate safety and paramedic crews on site. They have hosted more ASCS National tour races than any other venue this year.

Thats exactly right, I will take a high banked quarter mile over your flat 1/2 miles any day. I would also bet there are a BUNCH of 360's there that will have more HP than your budget field filler 410's.

Short Track Nationals and the Chili Bowl. Two "musts" on my calendar.

I think many of you are referring to the Josh Howard accident - 2 years ago. That was a tragedy, indeed... but I doubt that many ambulances carry "the jaws of life" on board. I believe that is why they had to wait for the fire department. All I have to say about Paul McMahan - thank God he was there to keep Josh focused and positive. Paul was racing that night and stepped in as he had had a similar experience, from what I understand.

In the '70's - the Devil's Bowl here in Mesquite, TX had an ambulance - but not a paramedic, so the wives club started the 50/50 ticket to have money to pay for a paramedic to accompany the ambulance. I know - that is history. Hopefully all tracks pay not only for an ambulance but also a paramedic now. Even now I have seen racing when the ambulance was in front of the stands tending to a fan. I don't think anyone - any class - should start a race without an ambulance immediately available.

What I'm saying - is I doubt that I-30 is much worse than most other tracks. I have not studied their fire response team, however.

Let's all enjoy the Short Track Nationals. I know that I will. See you there Petey- Bud's Bride and Bud and the rest of y'all.

LOL I just found it amusing that someones perception of a sprint race would be described as that. Usually you limited sprint guys bill them as outlaw sprint cars with fire breathing 850 hp 360 ci engines able to leap tall buildings with a single bound. You are correct about one thing, I'll take a field full of 410 sprinters any day over your limited ones. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers, I just found some of the previous posts a little funny.

I just remembered that David Gravel mentioned that he would come down to race as well. He was at the ASCS race at Tri-City in August and looked real good.

I-30 may be small but it's not slow. There's some guys that look like they almost go wide open into turn three when their cars are right.

Carole 14 study it this year, count the number of corner workers with fire extinguishers, walk buy the ambulance and look in the window, lok at the tow and push trucks for any equipment, look at personale and see how many are wearing fire suits so they are protected from fire if a fire breaks out, on a sprint car a $200 sawzall will extracate a person almost as quick as the jaws, look for one of them. having a paramedic there really does not mean much as what they can do without the proper protocol and equipment is very limited and doubt its in place there. I know a little track that often has less than 10 sprint cars for the weekly feature and they normally have 4-6 guys suited in fire suits, have much equipment and could easily have taken care of the Howard accident with no other help, and they also have an ambulance that is paramedic staffed on site for transport. The STN I would guess is in the top 20 sprint events in the country, but falls short in many ways of what most standards are provided by most tracks. Yes I will be there, Yes I remember when it was a 410 show and wish it still was, and yes I always worry much more for the drivers and crews there as it seems like many are not doing all that is normal and other events of this quality

Sounds like fun 2 me...lining up 24 cars in a 1/2 mile track playing follow the leader with no passing

I've watched some of the replays of your limited sprints and have been less than impressed with the racing. WestMemphis replay was a helluva snoozer for one, even the highlights were boring and painful to watch. It's like this, all races aren't barnburners no matter what you watch. It's still funny that, "small engines, small bullrings, and slow speeds" are desciribing a sprint race.LOL As for the safety of the race. I'm sure N2Sprints and lake carl are just making it all up, the ASCS would never allow a facility to cheese on the safety. I hope you have a good race and pray NO ONE ELSE gets hurt, but if they do I pray they have the equipment and trained people to handle it.

Cant argue about the west memphis race, but I think you will find that was the exception rather than the rule. The STN will be taped and will be aired on VS so you can check it out for yourself. A TON of great close racing makes this a really fun event. Come on down and I will buy you a beer and feed you at the camp site. BTW I hope we dont need to find out about the safety crew. Lets hope for a safe weekend.

correct me if i am wrong, but the track admits that they rely on EMT/Fire department that is "CLOSE" to the track. if thats the case, THAT AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH

lake_carl - I will check it out --- but I doubt that very many dirt tracks around the country are really prepared. One of the well known tracks doesn't even send the ambulance out after a flip - even a multiple car flip - until the track workers get there and signal to them. Same track is also really slow with the yellow flag.

By the way - I would call I-30 a momentum 1/4 mile. They really said around that track. I've driven past a World of Outlaws race at the Devil's Bowl to go to the Short Track Nationals - a much superior show. To each his own.

On a big half-mile, its all about horsepower. I would MUCH prefer a short little bullring like I-30 or I-55 than the half miles'...it actually takes driving skill to weave your way in and out of lap traffic on the smaller tracks...I guess if you like spreadout, follow the leader, see who has the bigger motor racetracks, then the halfmiles are your choice...I actually like seeing RACING!!!

You must not have been at the Knoxville Nationals this year. Sprint racing at it's very best!
