Looks like we will have a "full" field.  As has been stated many times, the Nationals is based on 80 cars, and we should get that.  I wasn't sure at the beginning of the season if it would be possible with all of the factors in play.

(I would actually prefer 80 cars to 110---I really don't need to see an E-main on Saturday night)

I think they might get to 95-100. We were at 66 last year on July 26, now that doesn't mean we're "ahead" of last year, it might just mean that the guys who are going have sent their entries in faster this year, but it might indicate that they're right where they were last year and we'll end up with 47-48 cars per night plus a 70 plus car Friday field.

Glad to see Brady Bacon, Shane Golobic, Colby Copeland enter. Part of the Nationals magic that no other race has is the opportunity to see drivers from all over the country in one place for a week.

I have seen many of these true fans over years. They show up for a tear or so, know more than the people sitting around who have been going for sixty years and then another shiney object captures their attention and you never see them again.

Maybe they decided to go to a different race track that you don't attend like Lincoln or Williamsgrove?

Let's go Sprint Car Racing!

Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

I know many of them personally and know they don't go to races anywhere now.

I have seen many of these true fans over years. They show up for a tear or so, know more than the people sitting around who have been going for sixty years and then another shiney object captures their attention and you never see them again.

This is my 62nd year as a racing fan.  My first racing experiences involved the cageless, wingless cars of the early 60's.  Racing wasn't always top priority and took a back seat a few times over the years.  Four years in the Navy, raising four kids on one income, remodeling homes on nights and weekends.  Life happens.  When the nest emptied I had the opportunity to create a website, write, take photos and be involved in the sport for close to 20 years.  40 tracks, hundreds of races, a couple nationals, the Eldora Sprint Million, I have seen and experienced a lot.

There are no shiny new things distracting me.  For me I can't jusify spending the gas and motel money to attend races alone.  Why would I travel alone and sit by myself to races I can watch from home?

Fifteen years ago I had a popup camper specifically for racing.  I was drinking more beer back then and attending races, camping at the track at multi day events was what I enjoyed.  We would sit up all night around a fire and bench race while howling at the moon.  I would do my thing taking photos in the infield and have a blast after the races.  I got a two level neck fusion in 2001 complete with plate, screws and donor bone.  That didn't slow me down at 50 but today my neck is toast and if I sit four hours on a metal bench I can't turn my head far enough to check oncoming traffic to get out of the parking lot.  It is usually OK by the next morning but it's not a pleasant experience.  I would need to sit in a folding chair or something not as hard as a metal grandstand.  Traviling and sitting alone at races sucks.  There are no shiny new things preventing us older fans from going.  It's more like physical issues and a lack of anyone to go with.  I wouldn't look like much of a fan by races attended the past five years but the longevity and contributions to the sport in my younger days speak for themselves.

I get just as excited about the Nationals now as I did the two times we attended the only difference being that I follow it online now.  I expect the usual number of cars somewhere around 100 + or - a dozen.  The 360 Nationals are exciting and worth following as well.  As far as picking winners I don't have any preferences as long as it's entertaining and nobody gets injured in any wrecks.  No matter who wins there are always plenty of back stories and on track drama to keep it interesting.

Cale Thomas was added to the entry list for the 410 and 360 Nationals last night (July 26).

Skylar Gee was originally added to the 360 Nationals entry list on July 25, but was removed from that entry list on July 26. He was then added to the 410 Nationals entry list last night (July 26).

I think we'll definitely see Cap and Balog tow in at least.

I was worried about the same thing but I guess it is Knoxville and guys will cut the season short if they run out of money, tires or parts.  I can't wait.....

I'm about 15 years behind you but I am well aware that I'm closer to the end of my race-going days than to the beginning.  I do attend many races alone (wife isn't a big fan but she lets me go with no fuss), making new friends when I can.  I still get as excited pulling up to the track today as when I was a kid - I roll the windows down a mile or 2 away to hear the engines and smell the burning fuel/oil.  I don't look forward to the day that I don't get that feeling.  But until then, I attend as many races as I can and stream the others.  Streaming is hard to beat as PA and CA are too far away and the refreshments are much cheaper.  I just hope racing is around in this form for another 15 years......

Def good to see them finally get in and I agree, I think we will see Balog for sure...I'm hopeful about Cap.

Now...I left out, on purpose, all the Cali guys I wish would show up but I know likely wont.  Its too bad, I would love to see more of those guys come out and spin around.  Or it would be nice if they could jump in an open ride.  Dominic Scelzi, Tim Kaeding, Bud Kaeding, ....who else am I missing? Those are just ones off top of my head.  Dom and TK have been in the Lunstra care before and have jumped in back up cars for others too.  I'd love to see those Cali guys in Knoxville again.

They must pay pretty good money as some of these people don't have a chance..Must pay enough to make ends meet for the weekend of races..

I think its the experience as much as the $$$

Who wouldn't want to play hoops with Michael Jordan even if you knew he'd destroy you?

They can say they raced against Sammy, Kinser, Schatz or Larson for the rest of their lives..

Actually more than that, they can say they raced in the biggest of them all.  The sprint car super bowl. They can say they were in the same arena as all the historic greats. They can say they went out and tried against the best of the best. Top Gun if you will.  Smile
