I think that Inbred Hillbilly is actually a fake screen name created by Johnny himself.  It's been a long winter and he just needed a little love at the start of the new season. /sarc off

Keep up the good work Johnny,  I do have one question though.  How do you keep those pants so clean?  I stopped wearing white racing shirts because if I get within a mile of a track, I've got dirt all over it!

I met Johnny's father at BAPs (Susky) last year

Nice guy!

I see his dad always at Sharon or Mercer  I’ve met him a few times and he’s always stops to chat.   As far as jb I turn off volume when watching highlights.

Wen to my first Outlaw race at Eldora in 1984. Been to Ascot, Manzanita, Knoxville, Syracuse and Volusia over the years...give me five minutes of down time with no talking over the PA so us in the stands can actually talk to one another...silence can be golden.

Please be mindful that you are talking about someone’s livelihood and he adds more than he detracts from the Outlaw show.

Being that he is a Penguins fan is my biggest point against him! Thinking he likes a lot of the opposite side of politics than I do. That’s fine, in this country we are all allowed our own opinions, let’s keep it that way and agree to disagree peacefully and respectfully.

Keep up the good work Johnny, your passion in undeniable.

I can appreciate the guy's knowledge, but I absolutely cannot stand to hear Johnny Gibson announcing races. When he's talking at a normal volume it's not so bad, but once he raises the pitch of his voice and starts talking loudly it drives me nuts. I know I'm not alone in this because I've spoken to others who cannot stand his voice.

And on the parade lap when he says that same cheesy thing he's said for years and years... C'mon now. Dude needs to be replaced. He's not an elite voice talent by any means.

I have never been crazy about listening to any announcers so that made my years taking photos from the infield a good choice.  That having been said I have gotten to know a few announcers and having stumbled through Toastmasters myself so I know a little about putting myself out there for all the world to critque.

I don't know Johnny personally but have watched him make the rounds preparing for the nights racing and he's much more detailed and knows more than a lot of announcers can ever hope to know.  That deal he says during the parade lap is meant to pump up the crowd and my opinion is that it's much easier on my ears than something such as "boogity boogity boogity let's go racin' boys".

He's well liked for obvious reasons and saying anything negative about him is sure to go over like the proverbial "turd in the punch bowl".  Like they say on the game show, "is that your final answer?"  If it is you should expect to take a beating on here.  wink

Johnny Gibson became the World of Outlaw's official announcer starting with the 1997 season. The reason I remember that is because that is the only time I went to a WoO show at Las Vegas where I remember asking Greg Stephens about it and he told me that was the deal. I thought it was great news and that it was a step forward for the organization. At that point the WoO had been in existence 19 years having started in 1978. 22 years later Johnny is still doing it! Let that sink in for a bit. From what I have heard he has not missed very many races along the way. You can debate his style all you want but what he has done over those 22 years shows an unbelievable level of dedication that is rare in this world. It hurts my head to think about everything he has done and experienced during that time. He had been selling programs for several years prior to becoming the announcer on top of all that!

No question on Johnnys knowledge of the sport, but i personally prefer the delivery of Scott Daloisio. Call me old, but I like a calm delivery.

I think Mr. Gibson does a pretty good job overall.   I can agree with you on the parade lap thing, that got old many years ago.

Maybe Darrell and Mikey are more to your liking???

I think  Johnny Gibson does a fantastic job.  I  appreciate his enthusiasm,  he's been doing this along time. Sometimes he seems a little to excited,  but he loves the sport and  loves what he's doing. Nothing wrong with  being excited about his love of the sport.  One day he will be  inducted  to the  sprint car  hall of fame.

He can say anything he wants.... much better than certain track announcers going on & on bugging you to buy "adult beverages"! Is "beer" considered a dirty word in some parts of the country?

Some of you stated the man is extremely knowledgable. I agree. I wasn't questioning his knowledge. But his voice is terrible for this kind of work.

Some of you made fun of my screen name. That's cool - It was a joke anyhow. I'm not a hillbilly. :-)

C'mon though, the dude's voice...

I find him a little annoying as well, not personally, but his voice and his broadcasting. So shoot me. He is very knowledgeable and professional though, and seems like a good guy. I just turn off the volume when I watch a live broadcast or youtube highlights. lol

That's all I'm talking about. His voice and his broadcasting. I'm not attacking the guy's character.

I don’t care what everyone thinks . I agree about his knowledge  BUT His voice is absolutely annoying. When I watch a video I turn off the sound.  And oh yes Allstar “ oh doctor “ is annoying.

I gotta agree.

Sometimes I put my ear plugs in for the announcer and take them out for the race.

Yup, sometimes Johnny yells as if he didn't have a microphone.  And you could hear him if he didn't, so he is super loud. Prefer T Bock at Knoxville myself. JMO
