The comment the owner made in the GF news paper makes him sound like a real dickhead...

Jimco Motorsports owner Ryan Grinde said his team does not plan to race at RCS this season, with the exception of the two World of Outlaws shows scheduled in June and August.

"We're going to hit bigger shows," said Grinde. "I don't feel we should be around here. I don't appreciate what the track pays to race here."

At RCS, the sprint feature winner receives $1,200. The closest weekly 410 sprint track to Grand Forks—the Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway—pays $4,000 for a feature win.

He may sound like a Dick, but he does bring up a good point. The pay at RCS is low compared to other 410 weekly purses, likely the lowest in the country.

On the other hand though, when they are averaging 20-30 cars every week, why would they pay more? They pay roughly the same as a local 360 show would have paid in the SD/MN area a few years back and average double the cars, in their 410 class. The reason the pay is so low, is because the cars still show up. There is no reason for NOSA to pay more when they have no issues with what they have. To be honest, I do not think most of them guys will miss that car there, as it gives some of the other guys a shot. Not saying they didn't before, because there are some good racers with good equipment that run NOSA, but still.

A person is a  _ _ _ _head becuase he is making a prudent business decision ?  Car owners, Mr. Gringe included, who possess the financial resources to own, subsidize, and race a 410 team obviously possess a strong business acumen.  My comprehension of the online article in the Grand Forks Herald was Mr. Gringe did not base his decision upon emotions nor a vendetta against the promoters of the RCS, rather economics.  $1,200 to win, in all probability, would not cover expenses and the driver's compensation.

I didnt say that train of thought isn't warented. I'm just saying maybe dont put it that way in the newspaper.

Here's what it sounds like to me, Mark-"I want to race at RCS because it's close to home and we have a lot of fans, friends and family here"

Gringe-"This team is too good to race at RCS for $1200"

The unique situation with Mark is that there is NO driver compensation. He does it for the love and fun of the sport. Grinde may have a point regarding low payouts at RCS. However that is not relevant to the big picture. They've always done this as a hobby, for the love of it. Any money they have actually made is nothing more than a bonus and goes back into the race team expenses. So giving the low payout reason for not wanting to race at RCS is BS in my opinion, I'm guessing there are some other underlying issues he and RCS have with each other. Besides, the low payout at RCS is offset by not having to pay your driver. I feel bad for Mark, but if you know him, you know he will end up on the right side of things - or in his case - the high side of the track blowing by the competition. It will be especially sweet when he blows by whoever the new Jimco Motorsports driver is.....

Whether you drive for free or not $4000 does more for team operations than $1200. Saw this guy up front a few times, competetive everytime I saw him. Hope he finds a strong ride soon.

Think ryan was sick of beating the hell out of his equipment for $1200 best of luck to all

i agree completely (a little off topic)

beer/food prices go up

they want an arm and a leg to get in the front or back gate (damn near 20 a person at the front and 35 for pits)

and pay for the win has been $1,200 since the early 90s if not earlier than that. the fans are starting to take notice crowds have been down substantially in the past 2 years with the exception of 2 jam packed outlaw shows a year something needs to change at RCS

But seriously, Mark said they supported him for years and decided to take their support in another direction.  There is nothing preventing them from doing that.  The timing left something to be desired but this sort of thing happens all the time in racing.

heard rumor his team might be breaking up , ?    its been a few years since he and Lunstra seperated , maybe he'll hang it up

Dominos continue to fall, if Husets, Badlands doesn't sell fast you can kiss 410 Sprint car racing in the upper Midwest goodbye 360 to follow.

I apologize to the owner of Jimco Motorsports for incorrectly spelling his name.  I typed my thread from memory and did not possess the wisdom to cross reference and proof read before posting.   I respect Mark for his willingness to drive for the love of the sport and not to accept compensation.

Makes sense to me....

Its funny how some people on this thread are mad at an owner for not wanting to race for $1200 to win... on the Mansfield  thread, they're complaining about $2000 to start!

I'd have to check if it is still current for this season, but Lernerville pays $1,200 to the weekly winner too, just to throw that out there as well (and yes it is one of the lowest 410 payouts).
