Per Sammy's Facebook post

"Kevin underwent a second surgery today at Des Moines Mercy Hospital to address one of two fractures he suffered in his back following last week's accident at Knoxville Raceway. Both surgeries have been successful and the doctors are heartened by his progress.

The doctors are also running tests on and monitoring a spinal cord injury that Kevin received during the accident.

We realize there is a long battle ahead, but Kevin has remained positive throughout the process and is ...prepared to fight to regain his health. We're all hopeful for a Friday discharge and the next steps to recovery.

We would like to especially thank the doctors, nurses and the staff at Des Moines Mercy Hospital for their outstanding work and the care they have provided Kevin. Additionally, we want to let the sprint car community and all of the fans who have reached out to the three of us know that we are grateful for your ongoing support, prayers and donations.

We remain optimistic about Kevin's progress and will provide updates as they become available."

Has anyone heard of a "BULLDOG STRONG" t-shirt? I heard about it, just trying to confirm it, and just wondering where to get one.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet but are there improvements that can be made to reduce the risk of another injury like this happening?

I saw this bit of info on Racer.com

"26-year-old native of Tennessee crashed hard after getting airborne in a tangle on the front straightaway during the preliminaries for the Knoxville Nationals. The impact reportedly drove the rear end into Swindell's back."

Heard the same thing from a prominent chassis builder that looked at the car in Knoxville, said the bottom of the seat was bent upward from the torque tube/rearend...

Butt bars are mandatory now. I wonder if his seat stuck out below the butt bar or if it hit so hard it actually bent the butt bar up?
