Everyone mourns ANY tragedy in his or her own way ... there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way .... it is 'right' in what ever you choose.
People may disagree with your way ... but that is only because it's not 'their way.'
My wife carried on when Princess Di was killed in Paris (btw we were in the stands at Knoxville that night when the story broke) you'd have thought her (my wifes') mother had died.
Me ??? I feel bad for her 2 sons even today ... but I didn't know her (obviously) and didn't get NEARLY emotional as my wife (who didn't know her either.) Didn't keep me and my racing buddies from enjoying a night at the races.
My wife and I, both ...from the same household, same values, from a different country (USA vs. England) neither personally knowing the deceased .... yet two almost 180 degree different reactions.
Leave ... stay ...... leave then come back ....go sit in your car and wait on your friends, cry, sit quietly and think ????
So many other possibilities also... There is no right or wrong ...whatever YOU decided ... that is what's right.

In the video, you hear the music start before the wreck even starts. not sure if that is an audio delay on the video, or what?
|
I think I 80 always has that DAMN music playing in the back ground. Their P.A. sucks the way it is then to put that STUPID music that nobody can hear anyway in the background of the announcer. I-80 has a station you can listen to if you bring a walkman. Its a great track and a nice place I think. Im afraid after the very poor car count and the wreck Dover had TNT might not be back. Just my thoughts and I love wingless sprints but its just not worth it anymore the crazy rides these guys take. If Jack would have had a wing on he would have probably never even tipped over.

Its been a hell of a tough year for sprint car drivers getting injured. I can't remember another year as bad as this. All the best to Jack and his family and friends.

Thoughts and prayers to Jack and his family. That looked vicious.
|
Can someone tell me what I have to do to see the video. Get well soon Jack.

There has been many a night where I wanted to go up, take the mike and throw it over the back of the grandstand at I-80. No research into the sprint drivers is done at all when they are part of the card...
|
Thank you for that post......Its better now but I went to the april ASCS race last year and I had had enough and let my feelings be known and caught holy hell for my post on that web site....its been better since then.

First off I am glad that Jack Dover is doing ok. Hope for a smooth and speedy recovery.
Secondly, I was at Osky the night of Keith's accident and I don't remember any music at all. It was completely silent for about 10 minutes until an announcer asked in a low voice if a priest or pastor or somebody along those lines was at the track if they would please come to the announcer's booth. The man they found came on and really did a great job. I thought everybody involved did a good job considering the circumstances.

Yeah, I 80 is a good track, decent facility. The whole Kevin Gobrecht accident is no way compared to this incident. Completely different set of circumstances.
.... I miss Kevin Gobrecht.

It was my decision to remove the video. It can be seen at the racinboys.com link posted above.
Jack is at home and recovering.

you guys keep talkin about Keith Hutton - somehow i never heard of this or it was before I really started gettin on this forum - but i found this link
http://www.speedsport.com.au/Keith%20Hutton.htm
So why did everyone there already know upon impact he was gone? This says he died at the hospital.....? ? ?
What exactly happened - as you folks saw it?
I am sorry to ask, as the way manyof you speak of it - sounds like story or visuals not worth remembering. but in this article it kind of sounds like other crashes I have seen. clueless here - can someone shed some light on this for me? with all due respect of course?

AMEN ! !
Somethings when seen, can not be unseen. Horrible night for those involved and anyone that was there. My Wife wouldn't watch non-wing for 2 years after that.
RIP Keith Hutton

Accidents like Keith's should be discussed in order to find a way to prevent them from occurring in the future. Sweeping it under the rug was the custom in this sport for many years. The attitude "Its racing, sometimes people get hurt or die" isn't good enough. NASCAR has become a lot safer over the past 10 years and that is because the attitudes toward safety have changed. I wish there was more of that in sprint car racing.... Thicker tubing, soft walls (at the dirt tracks), safety tubs around the driver's feet, etc. These things should be happening but they're not.
On a side note, Jack is one tough dude. I hope to see him back in a car. He is the kind of guy that makes going to the track exciting. I get excited when I see him starting in the back of the field because I know that he is going to put on a show moving through the pack.

The Hutton crash isnt something proper to address on a message board. I understand you dont know the details thus this isnt a comment to be critical in any way. Just that it was a really bad deal. I was in the flagstand that night and I wish I wasnt even there. Should we see one another at the track and you still want info about it, we can address this out of public view.

No one is sweeping Keiths accident under a rug. We're just choosing not to discuss the details on a public forum. The changes that needed to be made after that night, have been made..
