I never had a single issue with the Leiby's. They did a great job over their tenure of ownership but they passed the torch and that can always go good or bad. I personally think it went great. 3 guys who were already heavily involved in the sport as car owners and in Gobrechts case, as a track owner as well. Jerry Parrish of course has owned one of the top teams in the area for over a decade & if I had even half the money Mike Heffner has spent on the sport, I'd probably be able to retire. We're lucky to have people like them. It's no secret that they all have money thanks to successful business ventures. They could spend it sailing on a yacht but instead, they spend it on our sport & I'm thankful that they do.

You guys are arguing too much about this!
Just count your blessings that Pa. has so many tracks....
Seems like "silly season" has become "grouchy season" ......

Here we go again. This was discussed in a prior thread a month or so ago. I've had a question on this issue for some time and touched on it lightly in that prior thread. If any of you out there actually know chime in. The initial grant for the bleachers and this recent grant for stormwater management, the tunnel and new infield restroom were given by the Dept of Community and Economic Development not the Pa Dept of Agriculture. Look it up. The press releases from their local politician all speak to the economic impact that improving the facility will have for the area. Makes sense considering the government agency that awarded the money. It doesnt appear that these two grants have anything to do with agriculture and/or the fairgrounds. They look to be given to them as a business just like any other business. Correct or no? Or are they getting funding because of their nonprofit status? If you dont have to be a nonprofit given the right circumstances what is to prevent any other track from applying for state money? No matter the answers it seems Port may have had people who knew or familiarized themselves with the system and worked with their local representative to make this funding happen.

You say contractors are doing the work so I'll take your word for it. I know the track appears to be doing the demo but beyond that, not a clue. I have no idea who is actually doing the construction phase but I would imagine bids for the work would have been required along with the grant application. Is the particular contractor doing the work important for some reason? I guess if you really want to know that bad you could file a request for a copy of their grant application under PA's right to know law. They've been pretty transparent via twitter and facebook showing what has transpired since seasons end. If that continues throughout the construction phase who is doing the work should be apparent.

Who cares!!! Move on and find another topic to be annoyed with. People should be happy about the upgrades at the track and stop bitching. If you want to know so much then get your ass up and drive to Port Royal & look for yourself. It's a beautiful drive and a nice area for scenic views.
