And we should never forget that the excitement of having a fifty lap A Main started with the battle between Sammy and Schatz with the first one in 2010. That one set the tone and was one for the ages (no pun intended re: Sammy's age). That damn left rear tire still pisses me off to this day! I can still hear that crowd chanting "SA-MMY" as he walked back to the pit area, and took his bow.

Which makes me wonder.... if Schatz had won instead of Shaffer, would they have gone back to the traditional number of laps the next year?
Or was it case of,
"Hey guys, what did you think of the 50 lap format?"
Average dirt fan,
"Are you kidding? That was a great goddamn race! Schatz didnt win! An underdog won! Keep the new goddamn format!"

Good point.
I think the most complaints about the 50 laps was the Brown fans after Schatz came from 21st.
The argument about it not being a real sprint car race has always boggled my mind. The last 25 laps of the 2016 race was the most intense racing I can remember watching.

I think we stood for the last three or so laps, and I mean damn near everyone in the stands.
